As a blogging ambassador for the CHPA Educational Foundation’s KnowYourOTCs.org program, this is a sponsored post, but all opinions are my own.

Rohan was down for the count over the past couple weeks. He was super sick, then all better then back down again. He’s all better now as you can see from his mischevious lil face in the photo above.

I know I’m going to sound like the worst mom in history, but I love his behavior when he’s under the weather. He is quiet, snuggley, and gentle. He doesn’t harass his sister, he’s not climbing on anything, not screaming or running around the house with weapons fashioned from legos, he is so much more agreeable, compliant, sweet and just easier. His whining legit drops from 50% to .04%. #win

I love the outcome, but I hate that it requires him to be sick to be so soft and snuggly. I hate that he’s not comfortable, in pain, feeling out of sorts and not able to be his high spirited energetic self. No mom wants a call from school to come pick up their baby. No mom wants to see the misery on their lil faces. It’s just so unfair that their lil bodies have to go through anything like it.

A stomach bug was going around his school. We do what we can to keep them healthy, but….we got caught! His best friend was out for a week and then it was Rohan’s turn. He started with cold symptoms and a lot of coughing. Then it progressed to fever, headache, tummy ache and…well…let’s just say he had drama from both ends of his body, if you know what I mean.

Projectile….in both directions.

UGH

::shudder::

I love being post-potty training stage so I don’t have to deal with poop so often any more, but when the kids are sick…ugh…it’s like poopville all over again. (Fun fact: Did you know during the first year with a baby parents change at least 2000 poopy diapers.)

I’m pretty good with taking care of the kids when they’re ill, and knowing when it’s over my head and time to see a doctor, but with stomach bugs I’m not so sure. I just try to make sure they’re comfy and drinking water every now and then to replace what’s coming out.

I asked a doc for some tips and here’s what she said:

You can CLICK HERE for a playlist of more questions being answered by the doctor for help on keeping your kids healthy.

Remind those lil rugrats to wash their hands like it’s their job! I hope none of your littles catch anything this cold and flu season. If they do ::knocking on wood:: check out KnowYourOTCs.org for help on OTC medicines, dosing, and how to help them get well soon. It’s a great place for new parents and parents of older kids to get info and clarity around otc meds and children’s health at large.

Are YOUR kids sweeter when they’re sick?
