A Thousand Splendid Suns

OMG Have you read A Thousand Splendid Suns?

I read  The Kite Runner eons ago, (still haven’t seen the movie though), and this is the first book by that same talented author Khaled Hosseini.

I put off reading this book for years because I didn’t want to compare it to Kite Runner which I loved to bits.

So glad my bestie Judy convinced me to just read it already!

This story is lovely.
The characters are rich.
The viewpoints are incredible.

I found myself getting so pissed off, then a few minutes later saying “aaaawwww”, then after that crying.
The story shares a few generations of families in Afghanistan from 70’s/80’s to the 2000s.  It’s interesting to “go through” the political changes in the country with the characters.  Being in America and getting the distorted “news” that we get, it was just interesting to get this “first hand” take on things (even though the story is fiction).

Don’t worry, this was not a politics focused book.  It was a beautiful love story actually.  A family story.  I strength story.  A growth story.  I loved it from front to back and I’m kinda sorry I hadn’t read it sooner.

Have you read A Thousand Splendid Suns?  What did you think of it?!  Any favorite parts/characters?  Got any book suggestions for me?
