Remember all that balance crap I was talking about last week.
Well forget I said any of it. My house is a wreck. I don’t know what the hell balance means!
OK so I’m just being dramatic but seriously…
I feel like since I moved into this house I’ve been on the go. Working full time, spending family time with the kids on weekends and evenings and working to keep my business running smoothly. Trying to just keep things together in general… I had my head down and I was just grinding along doing what had to be done. My priorities were the kids and the biz. Home decor and renovation was not on my radar too tough until lately.
Now, I’m not working 9-5. I’m spending more time at home and I finally lift my head up… look around.. and realize that I have SO much work to do here.
My house wasn’t exactly a “fixer upper” …. it was certainly move-in condition back in February when we purchased.
But it has it’s flaws and needs a LOT of upgrades. Most of the big stuff is going to have to wait until this time next year… but there’s a lot I can do to pretty it up before any major renos.
First order of business was our water system and septic system. That was taken care of early, as was the new stove Since the stove that came with the place blew up.
Yes, blew up. I’m convinced it was a duppy*. I was sitting in my bed writing and hear a weird sound then “Oh Shiiiiiiit” from the kitchen. I shout out to John asking what’s going on. He says in this super calm (almost chipper) voice. “the stove’s on fire, don’t worry about it.” Those two sentences don’t go together! Weird part… the stove wasn’t on, nothing was recently cooked on it so it wasn’t hot. It just decided to blow itself up for fun. Hence: duppy. I just thank heavens it was John passing by, and not the kids, when it decided to go boom.
Now for aesthetics. We painted inside. And have to do the outside. We have a decent size yard but almost a quarter of it is taken up by our pond, so we’re going to have to fill that in at least partially so I can set up my veggie garden and make the kids play area into how I want it to be. We’re putting in fencing and clearing out a lot of the foliage on the perimeter of our property too.
We had a few companies come out to give fencing estimates and when they measured we got some interesting news…. Turns out, one of our neighbors is “stealing” our land! I dare them to say something when we put up our fence on our lawful lot line (which is like 6 feet into their yard past the “privacy” trees they left up between us.) Sorry bruh. That’s MY grass, yo.
The front of the house needs a lot of work too. Zero curb appeal currently. It was vacant for a bit before we moved in, so we gave it a good washing and will paint it soon. Inside needs artwork and more pieces to just make the house feel like a home. So, ::big sigh:: I’ve got a lot of work to do. I want a beautiful, safe and comfortable home for my kids to enjoy (and me and John too of course).
I’m giving myself 2 years to get this place to where I want it to be.
Only problem…and it’s kind of a big one…..
I’m so not domestic. I’m not artsycrafty. I have no artistic eye for home stuff. I have no designing bone in my body, and certainly have NO Green Thumb! I’m no unlikelymartha!
So… let’s see how this goes. LMAO
I’ll be sharing here along the way. I love before and after pics on other people’s blogs. Mine won’t be nearly as pinterest-worthy sadly. But my house wont be a wreck anymore!!
Do you have any home decor tips to share?
*duppy means ghost

Girl you can do this. One room at a time, otherwise you will get totally overwhelmed. The outside of our house needs so much work. We need new windows, some large trees cut down and sod. Can’t wait to see what you come up with.

Thanks. One room at a time. Good idea. It’s just… SO MUCH. What are you working on now?

Seems like the older we get, the more things there are to do in a day. We work hard to earn money, to get things we want, to spend even more time on. I really need to simplify my home more so I don’t have so much to do each day. It really is one day at a time. Grant me the serenity! lol

I get it! We are moving, too, and between work, kids, life, I still have one room completely unpacked and we’ve been here months! We decided to remodel before we moved in which was great because we didn’t have dust/paint getting everywhere and I really thought that would help me get on the ball about unpacking and making the place feel like home. But, alas, there’s still that unpacked room. I have decided, this weekend, it’s happening.
