Okay, so you remember how I told you I ordered that baby book?
Well, now I have seven more.
1. The Girlfriends’ Guide to Pregnancy by Vicki Iovine
2. Baby Bargains by Denise & Alan Fields
3. What to Expect When You’re Expecting by Heidi Murkoff & Sharon Mazel
4. Getting Ready for Baby: The Ultimate Organizer for the Mom-to-Be by Helen Tragos Stelian
5. A Child Is Born by Lennart Nilsson
6. Water Birth: The Concise Guide to Using Water During Pregnancy, Birth, and Infancy by Janet Balaskas & Yehudi Gordon
7. Natural Pregnancy by Zita West (forward by Kate Winslet! LOL!….wtf does she have to do with pregnancy?)
I’m starting a collection I guess. Ha!
Hence, why I love Freecycle.
If you don’t know what freecycle is, it’s a program/website (a yahoo group in NYC’s case) that allows you to post up ads of things you’re giving away that other people might want. I give away my bags of clothes and books that way. You can also post ads of things you want….which is what my shameless babycraving ass did for the first time.
I posted that I was looking for pregnancy books and quickly got the best response from an angel in the East Village “I’ve got a bag of them, you can come take ’em now”
I picked up a lovely sack of books from a woman who answered the door with her 3 month old latched on nursing and my uterus began to spasm! I. Kid. You. Not. I wanted to run home and attack John immediately and some conception goin’ on…. but I’m going to just keep my mouth shut, read my baby books and blogs and forums, and do my bid.
My sentence.
My time, until our (grudgingly) agreed upon date to start trying to conceive.
T minus 14 months and 3 days. But who’s counting?
I AM!!! For the love of God! (or whoever you prefer)
Anywaaayy…
I read the intros and skimmed each of the books so far and I love em! Especially the baby bargains book (cuz i love to pinch a penny), what to expect when you’re expecting (cuz it’s Q&A style and was recommended by a bloggie friend) and the girlfriend’s guide to pregnancy (cut it was recommended here and very cute so far).
There is so much to consider when getting pregnant and having children it’s just amazing.
Sidebar: I just got a flash of that movie Knocked Up when Seth Rogan is arguing with Katherine Heigl saying “Oh no I didn’t read the baby books, OH NO!!! How did anyone ever have a baby, before baby books were invented?!”
I know he was dripping in sarcasm, but umm…..I really don’t know how they did it because there is just SO FREAKING MUCH INFORMATION to take in and I know your doctor does not give you all of this info during your appointments.
I am glad I started reading these books now. I have so much to learn and research! I’ve got tons of time to get my fill before we start trying. I’ll be sure to review the books here just in case you gals are interested in pickin’ some up.
Have you read any of the books listed? How’d you like em? Are you freecyclers too?

Not looking forward to having to read those books but I will say friends have told me that the Jenny McCarthy book is good.
Also – there's a couple new stores popping up around town. It's called BookOff. There's one on 45th (btwn 5&6 right next to Jack's World). It's a used book store but they're in GREAT condition and most of the books are $2-$3. Ya might wanna check it out. 🙂

LOL Thanks Brittany!
Dancy – Oooh thanks. The woman I got the books from bought em at strand, another good place to be a book buyin cheapskate 🙂

Haha Dani, You are too much!
Although, I have the baby fever also, I can't push myself to read all the books yet. I think its just gonna make me want it more. Also, I am surrounded by baby talking all day. The program I coordinate works with preggy women and we give them all that great info. Oh how my womb aches each time a preggy woman walks through the door. I can give ya some pamphlets too! I guess after the wedding I will have more free reading time but now everything I read is wedding related :o)
In the meantime, I will continue to practice great preconception health and take my folic acid daily. Are you active in the forums on thebump? They have a preconception section!

Haha! Yes, I read What to Expect, but not this early! I did more skimming than anything. Too much info can cause anxiety, especially if you're a planner like me.
Thanks for stopping by during my SITS day. I'm following you on Twitter!

Aw! How great that you are so super excited, you will without a doubt be a great momma!! And there is no such thing as being over prepared, so might as well get as many books as possible… and I have not heard of freecycle, sounds amazing!

I just HAD to comment on this post because when I found out I was expecting the first thing I did (after taking about 12 pregnancy tests) was run to the bookstore and go baby book crazy! They are really helpful, I have most of the ones you mentioned above and read them every week.
