I am not being dramatic when I say: I think bookstores may be my favorite place in the world. (Next to a beach, my bed and my grams house of course)
The first reason is that no matter how sloppy, fugly and mismatched I am, I will always, ALWAYS get hit on in a bookstore (shout out to borders on 33rd and 7th).
Now, I don’t entertain the men who hit on me, I politely reject them of course but its still an ego boost to get approached on the pick-up tip no mater how old, fugly, sloppy and married you are. You know it’s true!
The second and main reason is that…well bookstores are fun! (Did I sound like the biggest geek saying that? I know I did didn’t I. Ha!)
But to me, they totally are! They’re a magical wonderland of ideas and entertainment and hope. Its like a genie that will fulfill any wish you may have. Want to learn about fly fishing, there’s a book for that, want to escape into a whirlwind romance? Books for that. Need a good scare? You can get that too. Whatever your desire for the day you know your bookstore will provide. Every whim I have I can just go to that section and get lost for a little while. I love it.
The other day, I had a 2 hour break at a temp gig (I did notes for a bacardi’s focus group) and I went straight to Barnes n Nobles to kill a few minutes. I swear time flew so fast it was incredible. I must’ve browsed through 17,000 books though (give or take a few) and it was just so chillaxed and enjoyable. I could’ve stayed all day.
I only purchased one book though. (not a baby book, I was so strong!) I’m on a budget so my cheap self made a list to take to the second best wonderland…the library. No new book smell and feel, but boy you can’t beat the price!
Am I the only one who could waste a day in a book store? There’s gotta be some other bookstore freaks out there! …Right? …Beuler?

Oh my gosh, you are my book soul sister! I totally go to the bookstore and write down a list of books for the library. That's practically all I do with my Blackberry's memo function! When I worked downtown, I would take my lunch hour and just wander around books. I was the worst Barnes and Noble employee because I totally got distracted reading new books I was supposed to be shelving.

YAY I'm glad I'm not alone on this one! I don't think I'll do a kindle or any e-reader either. I like to turn pages. I love books. Tho John's sony e-reader is pretty cool...

Amen!
I am not that into because of the smell, the feel and the presence of a book can't be compared with a kindle. However, if I think about the weight I carry in my handbag daily I might just consider kindle for that purpose.
Books are my best friends so much that most of the time I give books as presents to my friends (they look at me strange).
Also, each lunch hour I run to the Library next to my work place. Just sitting among books fills my appetite for knowledge, LOL!
... magazines are another sin of mine ;)!
Talking about been hit on at a bookstore has never happened to me; maybe it is because I live in London, where it is more probable you get hit on at the pub, LOL :)!

MEEEE! I will NEVER own a kindle! I love real paper books! The bookstore I told you about the other day isn't really all that well organized. Kinda stinks when you're looking for something specific but it's a DREAM if you're just going to browse.

Whenever I walk into a bookstore, I feel like I just entered heaven. :) I love inhaling the new book smell, and just wandering around. If that makes me a dork, I'll happily embrace that title. :)
