When you need a short and sweet getaway, I suggest you take a long weekend and have a momcation on the Norwegian Sky. You will have everything you need to enjoy yourself away from your offspring! The cruise goes from Miami to Nassau and Freeport, so you get to enjoy two Bahamian islands!
John and I headed off on a weekend to celebrate my birthday and it was just what the doctor ordered. We drove down to Port of Miami from home in record speed. We make it through the line and then when we hit the registration desk, we find out we were VIP and didn’t have to wait on line at all. Grrr. They escorted us to our room, a balcony cabin on deck 10. I did a video of it so you can check it out:
Our balcony cabin on the Norwegian Sky was the smallest I’d ever had, but it was so well appointed and perfect for just us two. We dropped our bags and went to the pool deck for the sailaway party and bbq. The music was bumpin and since the ship is open bar (yes…open bar honey!!) everyone was already in a party state of mind. John grabbed a snack. I grabbed a mojito.
….and it was on like Donkey Kong for the weekend! We had dinner in the main dining room 2 nights. The food was not the best we’ve had on a cruise, but definitely not complain-worthy. My belly stayed full the entire weekend. #grazer (It is impossible to go hungry on a Norwegian cruise ship. You can find something you like whether you’re raw vegan or a meatatarian :))
We did the specialty restaurant – a steakhouse, yum! – for my birthday dinner and it was delish.
On board we made use of everything we could. Hit up the gym, relaxed watching the wake, did trivia (we lost….twice), and participated in the game shows. We WON the Not so Newlywed Game Show!! ::holds for applause::
We had some great time alone with each other. It is so important to connect, man. I’ve been with this guy for ages and we have been through so much. We needed the connection time WITHOUT children. Quality time is my second love language.
And we made friends with a really fun couple and enjoyed Freeport with them. This is Junkanoo beach. A 20 minute ride from the ship, and had great food, amaaaazing rum punch and plenty of space to chill and enjoy the beach.
In Nassau we went to the Hilton and got a day pass which included food, drinks, use of beach and pool. It was a relaxing day even though the weather was crummy. We still enjoyed the beach and pool!
This cruise was a very welcome getaway. I needed a little respite from motherhood. I didn’t have to wipe any butts, cook favorite meals or cajole anyone to eat their dinner. Hell, I didn’t even have to make my bed. It was just the break I needed. I cannot wait to go again!
The ship has something for everyone. Whether you’re a partier (there’s a poppin’ white party, and the dance club is open late every night) or a house-mouse (movies in your cabin, and library for reading by the pool) or somewhere in between, like us, you’ll find something that suits you. Let me know how you like it when you get back!!
Have you taken a “momcation” cruise?!
