John called me from work one day early last month and told me he bought a gym membership for us. My first thought was… He wants me to cheat on Shaun?! What a hater.
I was grateful for it, but I didn’t know if I’d go, or if I’d be like the millions of Americans paying for a gym membership they never use. I honestly didn’t think I would want to get dressed, drive to a gym (and back), carry all my crap with me, wait on lines for machines, deal with staring creeper dudes, and feel all funny when I go to the “guys” section to do certain workouts.
I’m just so used to working out at home where it’s easy. I LOVE my at home workouts. I can jump around in my underwear and sports bra with hair looking a hot mess and nobody can say a thing to me. Half an hour later, I’m done.
Well, I’ve been back in the gym after my hernia repair! (Today I did abs for the first time!) It feels good to be active again. And it also feels great to be in a gym! Can’t believe I’m saying that! I haven’t been a gym bunny in years. (I was a NYSC freak many moons ago and even a personal trainer in a past life. Can you believe it?)
I love my at-home workouts. I just can’t quit them! The goals I have for my body just won’t be able to be reached efficiently at home though. I need to lift heavy. Last week wednesday, I did squats with a barbell on the smith machine for the first time in a long time, and i just can’t get that done at home where I’m at the mercy of how much weight I can hold with my scrawny likkle arms. (That’s not a typo. Likkle = little)
THE PLAN
So Monday Wednesday and Friday I do a quick warm up (walking on the dreadmill at the highest incline possible) and strength at the gym. In a month I will switch to do Body Beast again, but at the gym vs home where I can use heavy weights.
Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday will be my cardio days where I’ll do one of my beloved beachbody programs. I’ll rotate Focus T25 again (remember my T25 results from last year?) with Les Mills Combat and Brazil Butt Lift. But I’m starting with my boo Shaun T’s Insanity Max: 30. I only have 30 minutes to spare on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Sunday is non-negotiable rest day.
This past Saturday John and I went hard at the gym. I’m doing my bent over rows and John takes a picture….at the exact time it looks like some guy is sneaking a peek at my butt. I bet ol dude didn’t know he was getting caught in the act! HA!
What is your current workout schedule?
Grace says
Wow, that’s some schedule you have there. I hope to get there one day. Lately I’ve been working out twice a week doing spin class at my local Y. Last week I bumped it up to three times a week, but still no strength training. I’m intimidated by the weights and the fact that I have absolutely no idea what to do.
Dani says
Don’t be intimidated. Try it out at home first. get you a couple dumbbells and use at home workouts to gain your confidence and show you how the moves should be done. You can do it Grace!! How do you like spin any good results? (it hurts my vag)
Grace says
Ha! I was sore the first couple of weeks, but it’s good now. I’m down 27lbs since June, but I’ve plateaued. I’m hoping an extra day helps. I’m going to try lifting at home. Thanks!
Dani says
Oh lifting will help you bust through that plateau as well. Your body’s gunna be like WHOA! WHATS HAPPENIIIIINNNGG (but in a good way). CONGRATS on being 27lbs down!!! That’s AWESOME!

Being pregnant walking is my best friend but after baby comes and I’m cleared, it’ll be BBL, walking and maybe some personal training by my cousin who’s starting his own business 🙂
Keep up the momshell posts! They’re very motivating/ inspiring and I’m not technically a mom yet
Dani says
No. You ARE a mom. You’re the only person taking care of your little one in there. You’re doing the most momming ever right now. And thanks, glad it’s inspiring you. BBL and walking is gunna get you to momshell status quick after baby comes!

Well first I’d actually need to have a workout routine. I admire your dedication, cause I don’t think I’ve ever been able to stick to a consistent schedule for fitness.
Dani says
Try it. Didn’t you stick to your squats?

First you are too cute! I love that your phone is in your bra because I do that too and my hubby makes fun of me…. I don’t have a real schedule I’m more just working out when I can. But I need a schedule. Guess.I will set one today for the rest of the week.
