My son is half a year old.
In honor of the huge birthday of 6 whole months I’m switching my monthly update to a new format that I
stole procured from Quiana at HarlemLoveBirds.com. Also, please forgive the phone pics in this post, I’ll be taking nicer 6 month photos of him soon to share with you girls.
Now on to the update:
Baby’s Weight:Roey’s 6 month appointment is on the 11th so his weight is not exact. When I stand on the scale with and without him, there’s a 19.6lb difference!! He’s a BIG BOY!
Baby’s Height: My guess is 27 inches. That’s from a hastily done attempt at measuring at my mom’s house last weekend…with a squirmy baby and a measuring stick. So we’re likely off, but we’ll know for sure next week.
What size of clothing does baby wear? He’s such a chunk. He’s wearing 6-9 and 9months. In Old Navy he wears 6-12. On thanksgiving he wore this red sweater that was 12 months and it was too big but he wasn’t seriously swimming in it. He’s got some gerber brand onesies size 12 that are fitting well. (Have you noticed the huge disparity in sizing among all the baby clothes brands?)
Any milestones baby reached during the month: Eating food!! We tried carrots, I don’t think he likes them, and we’ve got peas and sweet potatoes on tap! Roey’s still squirming and scooting preparing to crawl. His sitting up has improved a lot. He’ll sit up and brace himself with an arm when he feels off balance. He can stay seated and pick someting up next to him and play with it with both hands so he’s definitely engaging that little core of his. Still a drooly, chew-on-anything baby though, with no teeth in sight. He’s also picking up his lil sippie cup and drinking from it a bit on his own. But sometimes he’ll put it down and yell at me to hold it in his mouth for him. Oh and he’s talking a lot more. I love that when I get him when he wakes up I say “Good Morning Rohan” and he says “HEEEYYYY.” He also really reaches up to be picked up in the mornings, it just melts me. Oh and he’s sucking the hell out of his bottom lip and it makes the cutest face (which I have yet to catch on camera, but I will soon.)
Special outings baby had during the month: He met some cousins on Thanksgiving that he’s never met before. We took an outing to another part of Jersey for that. We got the Christmas tree together this past week, that was special to me! Oh and he rode in a stroller for the first time too. (It was awful for me, and I think he picked up my vibe cuz he was a lil fussy and looked so concerned and kept looking to me for reassurance) We also went to a local Jersey City institution, Laicos, for some italian food with Roey for the first time. And he had is first trip to Chilis lol.
What are your thoughts about the past month? Nothing can express how wonderful everything about this kid is. Nothing. It’s just so amazing watching him do whatever he does. He feels so “on the verge” to me. Such big changes, milestones and growth are coming very soon. He’s on the verge of so many big boy things! I just am so chock full of love and pride with this lil one.
What was baby’s routine? This month was a bit harder because he got a cold, and then he regressed in his sleeping pattern starting last week. He’s now waking every 2-3 hours like a newborn! Not cool. I think I’m just going to co-sleep full time so I don’t have to get up a million times a night. John will just have to deal OR get up every 2 hours and bring the baby to me and then take him back to his crib. (I think that’ll convince him that co-sleeping full time isn’t such a bad idea, don’t you?) So his “routine” at home is up around 7/8 and nap around 10/11, then another around 3/4 and then I get him down to sleep at 7/8. At my mom’s house his routine is no routine. I just try to ensure he gets 2 naps, and down by 9 or 10. His naps are crazy short now though.
Reflect about the highlights of the month: I love seeing him do his downward dog, his crawly things, and enjoy his toys and books. One highlight is we put a toy on the side of his crib that he has to press a button for a song to play. We’ve been putting him down drowsy but awake, so he can soothe himself to sleep. One day, John put him down, and we were going about our evening, and then out of the darkness came the song from the crib toy! It was funny, but a nice reminder that he’s such a big boy now. He’s so purposeful with his actions.
Did any big changes occur, such as baby started daycare, stopped nursing, slept through the night, etc… Starting him on food was a big change, and his sleeping pattern change.
What are baby’s favorites – toy, food, person, etc… JUMPAROO!!! (you already know) Well, I recently discovered that Rohan loves Wham’s This Christmas and Otis Redding’s Christmas music. It calmed him down on a particularly crankazoid day. Whenever I play the Wham song he stops and looks at me w/ a gummy smile. He just loves music in general. As for toys, Sophie is getting some serious play nowadays. But he’s got this red bird that hangs on his play gym and I take that thing with us everywhere because it will chill him out and keep his attention longer than anything else.
What was 6 months like with your little one(s)? Any tips for me for this stage and what’s coming next?
