I refuse to have a tiger striped belly from this pregnancy. I refuse.
Everyone’s saying stretchmarks are hereditary, but I refuse to believe it. I REFUSE!
I’ve heard that if you scratch your belly you increase the likelihood of getting those evil little bastards and that if you don’t moisturize regularly as your belly grows those demons will pop up…so I’ve declared war.
I’m combating stretch marks by lubing up my belly, butt, thighs, back, sides, boobs with anything I can get my hands on! OK, not ANYTHING…*puts crisco back on shelf*
Now, ya know I’m trying to do the all natural/organic thing from now on so my options are slimmer.
My ammunition for this war is as follows:
- coconut oil – my fave!
- raw cocoa butter – great!
- olive oil – never used alone! (The link isn’t to the brand I use, I buy whichever is cheapest for skin/hair, only use quality olive oil for food)
*Warm and melt/mix these 3 together and let set in the fridge for a nice body butter!
I started out using my regular old Jergens with shea but I’d be dry tight and itchy really soon after. (Plus I’ll have to drop this once I use it up since it’s far from all-natural. So I started sealing with coconut oil (like I do w/ my hair) afterward. That works well at night, but I don’t want to be a slippery oily mess in the mornings for work.
I may try whipping up some of my shea mixture I used on my hair in the past for my ammunition stash.
I’ve heard great things about this product too:
But I’ve never tried it. Have you?
A friend of mine is getting a nice mix made for us of cocoa butter, vitamin e, olive oil, and coconut oil….and some other ingredients I forgot. So I’ll be slathering that on as soon as I get it.
What did you use to avoid stretch marks? How’d it work for you? Any all-natural ideas for me? Did you avoid scratching? Anything you know of to prevent the itchies?!
You’re not going to like if I tell you the truth behind stretch marks. I’m sure John already knows from his APII class once they got to that chapter. But I will say lather, lather away!
P.S. I’ve used Bio Oil it’s great!
and you can WIN!
I can say that my tummy and butt and thigh are strech mark free from both pregnancy.
I use to carry my cocoa butter in my bag to work, My MIL told me to apply every time I remember LOL which was all the time.
I do have some on the boobies but not preggo related, they’ve been here 🙁
Fight them Stretchies!
I actually did not get stretch marks on my stomach but my arms have them bad for some reason they got really big when I had my daughter. I used cocoa butter on my stomach everyday don’t know if I just got lucky or if it worked.
I did it all, and I did not have any success. Then my mom and grandma showed me their bellies, and then I realize it could be hereditary.
I’m hoping that the second time around will be better because I weigh less than I did when I first got pregnant.
i’ve always been a fan of cocoa butter … but i’ve never gone through a pregnancy before so i know i will be researching like a crazy person when i do. good luck keeping those evil suckers away!
My friend just suggested Belly Oil to my sister. She swore by it. http://www.belliskincare.com.
I all but swam in Carol’s Daughter Sexy Belly and Palmer’s Cocoa Butter during both of my pregnancies and my stomach still looks gross. My mom had stretch marks… I have stretch marks. Good news is they fade with time. I still say put up a good fight but don’t blame yourself if you still get them… blame your mom lol.
I got stretch marks with first pregnancy because I was carrying around an 8 pound baby and two tumors that grew as she grew. I tried all the creams and they didn’t help at least not with the stretch marks. They did work wonders on keeping me itch free.
My stretch marks were small and lucky there were only three of them. They’ve since faded and it’s like they were never there. I would say don’t freak out too much if you get one, but keep using your creams because I think having moisturized skin helps keep them small and reduce the amount you get if you do get any.
Hi Dani!
Super congrats on Embry!! I’ve been reading for a while now but never commented! I looooove you’re blog! I’m also an all natural soon-to-be life coach, and my honey and I share the same anniversary as you and John (although we are not married…yet!)
I don’t know anything about pregnancy or stretchmarks BUT I do make these fab massage bars that I’d love to gift you! They may not keep stretchmarks away (I’ve never tried it) but they’ll definitely moisturize.
I make them with Cocoa Butter, Shea butter, vitamin E oil, extra virgin coconut oil, sweet almond oil and either peppermint, lavender, or jasmine essential oil.
Let me know if you’re interested 🙂 I’d love to make you some! I don’t have a website or anything — I just make them for my friends and family at the moment.

Hmmm…. I’ll have to keep coconut oil in mind. I use it as a body oil and for my hair now. I’ve only heard of cocoa butter for stretch marks. Learned something new today!
i know my sister used cocoa butter and she said it was fantastic..i am sure you will win the fight!
As soon as I find out I’m pregnant, the first thing I’ll do is go to the store and buy almonds oil (I hear it’s the best!) and make my husband rub my belly 3 times a day.
I think it will be worth it 🙂
I used cocoa butter but forgot to use olive oil which works magic, I am going to use it again to get rid of some stripe I got, I believe 8 months, into my pregnancy.
I didn’t win the war on stretch marks, but for the itchies, aloe vera gel worked wonders. If I had gotten myself up out of bed to get the a.v. gel, I wouldn’t have scratched my huge belly like there was no tomorrow. That is how I lost the war on stretch marks. I wish you the best.
What is the best solution for Stretch Mark during pregnancy or being fat ? Its a common question today .But ultimate solution is near of you and could not understand .Now-a-days many lotions and creams using to remove fade skin in short time .Such as I got rid of fade skin in short by using stria fade that contain vitamin E and alpha hydroxy acids .
