Today’s guest post deals with something I’m going through now. Happy to report I’ve followed all her tips!… OK maybe not #2…I still wear some maternity jeans. DON”T JUDGE ME!
Summertime can be difficult for new moms who are dealing with a changing body shape and the demands of being a parent. However, you don’t have to let the warm weather of summer make you feel self-conscious any longer. Here are a few smart ways that you can make yourself look and feel better this summer.
1. Get Outside and Enjoy the Whether
Lace up your shoes, put the baby in the stroller, and go out for a nice long walk. Make time to visit the park with your baby. The more you get outside and enjoy the great weather, the more exercise you can get. You’ll start feeling better about yourself, and you might shed a few pounds in the process.
2. Pack Away the Maternity Clothes
Wearing the maternity clothes after you’ve had your baby may be comfortable, but it’s not good for your self-esteem. Even if you’ve gone up a size (or two), you’ll still feel better if you’re wearing regular clothes that fit you nicely and complement your new figure. Remember that you just had a baby, and you shouldn’t be too hard on yourself if you’re caring a few extra pounds right now.
3. Embrace a New Workout
You want to be around for your child for a good long time, and that means taking care of yourself. Starting a regular exercise routine or joining a gym does more than just help you shed those last few baby pounds. Resistance training is great for bone density and will help you stay strong as you age. Regular cardio activity is good for your heart and overall health. In addition, regular exercise helps combat depression while boosting your mood and energy levels. You’ll probably lose a few pounds in the process as an added bonus.
4. Get a Suit that Fits
When you go shopping for your new swimming suit, choose one in the proper size. In addition to looking better, you’ll also be able to breathe easier. If you’re worried about stretch marks, then look for a one-piece or a tankini you need that will cover up your stomach. If you’re feeling self-conscious about your upper thighs and bottom, then you might want to consider a skirted suit that will hide trouble areas and look fantastic. Even if you’re not happy with the size on the suit, you’ll still be happier with how it looks on you.
5. Get the Cut
There’s more to how you look in your clothing. Treat yourself to a day at the spa and get your hair done. Your hair is your crowning glory, so you’ll feel more attractive and confident when you’ve got a great haircut that complements your face. Make time to pamper yourself a little each day by doing a little something with your hair and makeup. You won’t feel quite as frazzled when you look your best, and that will help boost your self-esteem.
It’s important for new moms to take care of themselves. It’s easy to become so caught up with caring for your precious little baby that you forget to take care of yourself. However, you cannot give your child the best care when you’re feeling down in the dumps yourself. Giving yourself a little pampering and extra attention is a great way to become a better mom for your new baby.
