I want to be like those gypsy wives I see on that TLC show. I want to love cooking and cleaning for my family. I’m fairly organized and great at keeping other people organized (any good EA/PA has to be) so I don’t know why keeping my home organized is making me nervous! (let’s just blame my preggo hormones today)
Although I had a dose of temporary insanity in the past, I generally am not a fan of cleaning. As for cooking, I do it rarely, and only because I enjoy the final product. (And usually John does it) It’s rare that I’ll cook or bake something just because. Given these facts, I don’t know why (outside of wanting to raise my children vs daycare) I wanted to be a SAHM (Stay at home mom).
Now, John and I are going to be in a traditional gender role type sitch. He works like a maniac outside the house, and I’m home to be mommy and homemaker, while trying to build my business from home. Even though I’m psyched that we’re fortunate enough for me to stay at home and raise Embry for his first year of life until we move to FL, I’m very used to working a 9-5 and earning a nice fat paycheck. So, this new situation is taking some mental adjustment.
I have to figure out a schedule that will get my business work and coaching calls done, keep the house in ship shape, and have meals cooked, being at the whim of an adorable newborn’s many needs, and taking care of myself… all while staying within a way tighter budget. (i.e. I have to do the cleaning, no hiring help, No takeout when I feel lazy, no gym membership, no shopping…)
During these last few weeks of pregnancy I’m taking time and getting inspired and organized. Reading blogs like The Happy Housewife that has helpful tools like this weekly chore chart and looking for forums for other SAHMs and WAHMs. I found Small Notebook which is a great site for organizing and simplifying. Simple Mom is pretty good too.
Do you know of any good homemaker blogs? Or low carb recipe blogs?
I think I may have to make a household binder. The one I linked to is cute, but I can make one cheaply on my own I’m sure. I’ll hunt for printables and post em here in case any of you girls are interested in them too. Anything you’d suggest I include in it?
Also I took this book out at the library for some inspiration 🙂 (but it’s only $5.60 if you want to buy it)
Are you a SAHM or WAHM? What’s your schedule like? Any tips of the trade for me?
Totally Unrelated: I got a nice haul of hair products if you’re interested in checking out my natural hair blog, reviews coming there soon!
