I miss my body, dammit.
There. I said it.
I miss my old body, and I’m fully aware that I’ll never have it back. It’s gone. *pours some liquor out*
Yes, I know I’m only a little bit post-baby, and I know I need to be patient, and I know all the “9 months to gain it, 9 months to lose it” advice… but… I’m annoyed with how my body looks. (I’ll spare you a rundown of my gripes. You’re welcome.) And I’m ready to fix it. I want to look and feel “right” again. And soon! I’m cleared to work out in just a couple more weeks and I cannot wait.
I kinda fear my first work out. I know that no matter how “light” I try to go with it, it’ll be the hardest my body’s worked in about a year. *GULP* I have to work out at home because the gym membership was one of the expenses slashed to save money so I could stay at home with Rohan.
So far I have kettleballs and a Jillian Michaels dvd, plus I have Jillian Michaels’ 30 day shred and Supreme 90 for after I’m back in the working out groove. I’ll be able to strap lil man on and do some power walking, and go for runs when John’s home to stay with Rohan. I also have a stationary bike (somewhere) for indoor cardio.
So…I’ve got the tools… Including this very cute 10lb weight:
As for the diet…I’m not touching that much. I’m eating the same way I was eating at 9 months preggo…and I like it. I’m ALWAYS ravenous and always thirsty, and always craving the worst junk. The one thing I am doing, is cutting out the juices I have been sipping and just sticking with water and milk. Otherwise no diet changes. I’m breastfeeding and need the calories. I figure once I get back in the exercise habit in a few months I will start to trade my crappy calories for healthy ones….but not yet.
I know that even after returning to exercise and eating well, I will not have the body I used to have, and I’m OK with that. (okay…i’m getting OK with that) However, I know that even with wider hips, mega boobs and different bodyfat distribution, I’ll FEEL right again once I get active and healthy. That’s what matters most.
Bonus: I get to buy lotsa new pants!!
Was it easy for you to return to exercising after your pregnancy? Did your appetite return to normal after you finished breastfeeding? Have any at-home workouts you’d suggest?
Don’t give up. You’ll be surprised how much of the weight just comes off. Combined with exercise, I’m sure you won’t have a problem.
You seem to put your all into everything that you set your mind to do. I have total confidence that you will be smokin’ again in no time.
As for the extra curves. That would’ve most likely come with age anyway. Luckily, when you workout, your body will be tight and the curves will be in all the right places. I can’t speak from total experience (no baby for me), but I doubt you should sweat it. And you have a darling baby to boot! You’ll be great! 🙂
It wasn’t very easy for me to return to exercise after childbirth, but to be honest I didn’t take it seriously until after I gave birth (I know…bad right?). The good news is that I did get back in shape, and I lost more weight than just my pregnancy weight. I will never under estimate the power of walking, and working out by doing something that you like.
I swear by the original Tae-Bo workouts – they are some of my favorites! I also have a Winsor pilates dvd that has worked well for me!
T.
I recommend TurboJam or Power90. Other good ones are Turbofire, P90x or Insanity. You should checkout some of the moms before and afters babies using these programs on Youtube it’s great inspiration.
My appetite never went back normal, but then again I’m still breastfeeding. Not sure if I would cut out juice completely. There are a lot of healthy options for juice try the organic aisle at your grocery store. And you can use juice to make smoothies!
I have the Discovery Health Channel/FITv and catch a few workout shows on there. Here’s a great work out channel from YouTube http://www.youtube.com/user/TiffanyRotheWorkouts
Trust me it will come off. This is your first baby and that weight is usually the easiest to lose. Breastfeeding helps a lot. You just have to watch what you eat, even though you are still eating more to breastfeed. Once you stop breastfeeding your appetite will go back to normal, as in you won’t be eating as much calories. You don’t have to start off doing anything crazy right now. I started with just walking after having all 4 of my children and it made a difference!!
I’ve never had a child so I can’t comment on how it will be to return to exercise. But I wanted to let you know that one of the best things I ever did when trying to get out of shape was up my water intake. I never drank soda, but I was always a big juice drinker. So what I did was limit my juice drinking to one 8-ounce serving when eating meals. Any other time I drank water. It made a world of difference and I felt much healthier!
i definitely like your attitude about this…your body will just be a brand new body and it will be beautiful just the same…i keep on hating my stretch marks but i remind myself it’s all part of the process! i can’t believe R is already 10lbs…cute pit…love his chubby little arms…too cute!!
I agree with Godyssey, you will certainly get to a place where you are feeling good about your body because your are a very motivated person and you were fit before. That muscle memory will kick in once you start working out and it will be tough but you’ll get back in the groove of things. Good luck! Oh and remember that your body is incredible as it put such a precious life aka Rohan on the this dear planet.
I agree with godyssey that even age leads to some physical changes, e.g. weight in the belly in postmenopausal women. Not sure if you’ve seen the blog “Shape of a mother”, check it out if you haven’t. Pregnancy causes alot of trauma in the body, so don’t be too hard on yourself.
I feel you on missing your body! We slashed our gym membership to save $ too and I found the city to by gym. As much as I’m out and about lugging my almost-2 year old around plus when I was nursing I just kept getting smaller and smaller without having to commit to a training program. Since weaning 8 weeks ago I’m doing major portion control, curbing sweets and still sticking to just lemon water for hydration, and it’s helping to maintain my weight. The one area I’m lacking is strength. The 10 minute trainer series is fantastic for that!
that should’ve read “to be my gym” 😉
I feel your pain. The first 2-3 months I lost mega amount of weight without doing much. Now things have gotten a lot harder. I was walking a few times per week pretty soon after my little boy was born. Around 8 weeks I started doing the Insanity work out videos. I did it for about 2-3 weeks then had to give it up when I started work. Now I do them intermittently. I’ve def lost weight but I don’t look anywhere close to my pre-preg body (even 5 months later). I’m skinny but it just does NOT look the same. lol. I also still have a little bit of belly fat. I’m still breastfeeding too so I’m not really doing much as far as diet goes besides eating a crap ton. Most days I don’t care because I’m just enjoying my husband and my baby. Some days I get freaking mad. lol.
sometimes i feel that about my body, but i am learning to accept it and work with what i got, because i know it is not bad after all. i am sure you are looking great though now you see another you in the mirror.
