Soon we’ll be through with the backdated items, I promise. I just want to be sure to have everything here for when I look back.

I am so excited! My baby looks healthy and awesome!! Today John and I went to the hospital to have the nuchal scan done. This tests for chromosomal abnormalities, and birth defects by doing blood tests and specific measurements of the baby via sonogram.
We got to the hospital and checked in, the waiting room was super full, but people were coming in and out quickly so we didn’t have to wait too long before being brought into the room with Karena our awesome sonogram lady. (What’s their proper title again?) This was my first time having the external sonogram done on my belly. My doc has been using the internal stick thingy to check on Embry.
I love that she had the gel goop in a warmer, I wanted to rub that goop all over like warm lotion! lol…no seriously. She looked at Embry from a million different positions. The movie screen up on the wall that we got to watch the ultrasound on was big and very clear, it was the best “movie” I have ever seen in my life. My lil bunny’s parts were all there, we got to see the profile for the first time….he’s really human, not a teddy bear! That lil profile was so sweet, I cannot wait to kiss that little nose. The forehead was huge and round just like his/her mommy’s and the head was humongous just like his/her daddy’s! Embry was sitting with ankles crossed so daintily! (maybe it’s a girl after all!) And at one point started dancing, and then waved at us!! I almost shat myself.
Buzzkill Karena reminded us that all movements at this point (12 weeks 2 days) were involuntary. I just cut my eyes at her, tuned her the F out and waved back at my lil dancing Bunnyboo.
We finally got to HEAR the heartbeat….and that’s when I lost it. I busted out sobbing like an idiot. John’s allergies started acting up again. Bigtime. Who’d have thought there’d be so much pollen in a hospital?! ::shrug:: Hearing that fast, strong lil heartbeat was a magical moment for me. Embry’s ALIVE you guys….ALIVE in there!!! It’s just so tremendous. More tremendous than you expect when you’re hoping wishing dreaming for baby.
After Karena printed out a million pictures, she gave us a few and took the rest for the doctor to look over. Some random doctor I’ve never seen before came in and told us that from the measurements and photos everything looks A OK with Embry! (later my doc called to give more detailed results – all good news)
We then went back to get my blood drawn. It hurt. I’m no good with the blood drawing thing, but this needle I swear it looked like a drinking straw! Thankfully it was only one tube’s worth of blood and we were on our way.
We have our next regular doc appointment December 15, and our anatomy scan back at the hospital in mid January. I am hoping and praying that we can get a gender at our December appointment, but if not…I know January we will find out for sure.
Did you have a nuchal translucency scan done?
