I really did.
But I failed.
The cardinal rule of Nanowrimo is:
Just Write. DO NOT EDIT.
Do you know how hard that is?
That means when I pump out a jacked up idea I am just supposed to leave it there.
LEAVE IT THERE???!
You see the stupid idea, or dumb sounding sentence or ridiculous transition glaring at you.
And even if you scroll up, you know it’s still “up there” sucking and being terrible.
On Day One I wrote……. and edited (i know, I shouldn’t have…but I did) and I only got 951 words.
951? That’s not nearly enough!!
So, Day Two I said, I will not edit.
no no no.
I wrote a shit ton. (that’s a technical term)
But after dinner I went back to read it……
I hated it.
ALL of it.
I know, I know…
And then I had only 803 left.
For 2 days effort!
I was going to be pissed at myself, but decided to be pissed at NaNoWriMo instead.
With their evil edit-free rule and their 50,000 word goal taunting me.
Then I realized…hey, I wrote 803 words in 2 days. That’s about 2 articles worth, kinda.
So instead of being pissed at anyone.
I decided to be grateful.
I’m grateful I wrote those 2 days, and I’m grateful for NaNoWriMo.
I’m doing my own personal challenge instead.
Dani’s Article Writing Month!!
I write one full article or essay a day!
And I will EDIT IT TO MY HEART’S CONTENT!!!
That is all.
(edited to add: I wrote this post on November 3rd, and since then have written and edited an article a day! I love DanArWriMo! I think for december I may try to do restart the novel, but allow myself to edit)
How are you doing with NaNoWriMo? Is the no editing rule getting to you at all? How many words do ya have so far?!
