I’ve forgotten to check my Formspring for a long while and the questions there were building up so I’m going to answer them here for you. Next post will have the questions from emails answered.
when you go to get your hair cut, do you straighten or leave it curly? I’m getting ready to cut my own hair and I don’t know if i should do it while straight or curly
I get it cut straight. I’ve gotten it cut curly before but it was uneven when straightened. I cut it myself when straight and when curly(soaking wet).
Hey dani I cant find any of your articles on transitioning can you tell me how long it took, when you bced and your regiment at the time?
Last texlax was August 2007. I transitioned until June 2009. I chopped off all the relaxed ends at that point and was armpit length. I have a couple transitioning articles up:
My regimen consisted of tons of braidouts, buns and deep conditioning. same as usual.
Do you take vitamins? And if so do you think they’ve helped your hair grow?
I take a multi (almost) every day. I don’t know if it helped in hair growth, I think being generally healthy helps all parts of your body do well.
Wheres your search bar?????
It’s on the right side of the blog under the cloud of topics and above the archives.
did you and your husband ever break up before you got married? how did you get back together?
Yes, we broke up for like 2 minutes a few times, and once we broke up for a few months. That one was heart wrenching and I thought it was over… All of them were my doing. We got back together by just starting talking again. It’s weird. We were still so connected. Actually, it’s not weird, I guess it’s normal if you think you’re “meant to be” to not be able to stay apart from each other for too long.
I just stumbled on your blog. (which is amazing 🙂 )..B was wondering have you or do henna?
Thanks!!!! yay!! I just started, You can check it out HERE and HERE. I’m doing it again next weekend 🙂
I love your new site! Congrats on hubby and baby. I just wanted to know if you still blowdry your hair and how often u would recommend it for natural hair?
Thanks!! No baby yet though. Cross your fingers for me. I don’t blowdry my hair much at all. I think I’ve done it twice in the last year. I wouldn’t recommend it for natural hair but some folks dig it. ::shrug:: Come to think of it, I wouldn’t recommend it in excess for any hair.
what is ur ethnic background? u look like my ethiopian friend 🙂 very pretty
Thanks! Wait, let me tell you a story, there’s this bodega owned by an adorable older Egyptian man and EVERY SINGLE time I go in there, he asks me if I’m Ethiopian. Every time, I tell him I don’t think so but I can’t be sure. I go in there several times a week. I don’t know how he cannot remember that we had this conversation at most 2 days before. I kinda look forward to it now lol. If he ever stops asking me I may be disappointed.
Anyway, my mom’s side of the family is mostly Jamaican, my dad’s side of the family is mostly AA but I can’t really know where in Africa either side of the family was initially taken from so ::shrug:: My answer: I’m Black.
I love your Long Hair Blog. I know you were in the process of moving it, but I haven’t seen it in ages. What’s the story? I hope you’ll continue to update us with your success in that area as well! Thx Nik
Hi Nik, I combined the hair blog and this “personal” blog together. If you look on the sidebar and click on “HAIR STUFF” you’ll see all the posts from the hair blog going back to 2009. HTH
Are you still pursuing your acting career? I don’t see any links to your acting website or acting blog.
No, not at all. I have changed to pursue a career in wellness/mental health. I left acting alone last year after loads of consideration. I can’t say I’ll never try my hand at it again later in life, but I know the hustle of the industry is not for me. I get my fill of the biz by shooting actors’ headshots and screaming “oh my god I KNOW her!” when I see a friend on TV or a movie.
does it feel different now that you’re married? i am wondering if living together before impacts that feeling at all? congratulations!!
Thanks. Not really different. We did live together (and I’d never marry someone without living with them first, but that’s just me) and I think we knew what marriage would be like before saying our “I Dos” I sometimes get these overwhelming feelings of love/joy/safety/happiness when I think that I’m actually married to my best friend and we’re going to do life together from here on out though.
Hey, I really like your blog! I just moved to New York and want to know what fun things there are to do! I know there is alot in the city but I don’t want to get lost on the train:/
OMG girl there is every and anything to do in this city. Get a train map and go for long walks enjoying every section of the city. I’d also recommend those tourist books (even for native new yorkers) because there are some fun things to do that you wouldn’t have thought of. PS my next nyc adventure: Trapeze lessons! 🙂
Would you ever go on a reality show?
Hell yes, I’d go on Amazing Race in a heartbeat. And I want to get divorced so I can get remarried (yes, to John, not to thisguy) and go on Say yes to the dress, then that david tutera show, then Bridezillas. I wanna scream at people and throw cake and berate everyone in sight. I could never go on Survivor or Big Brother though. Too much anxiety and mistrust and backstabbery.
have you ever tried out for america’s next top model?
Yes and no. I went for the petite season. The one w/ the riots in NYC lol. That was a shitshow. I mainly went to give out my biz cards which I did liberally. I got a lot of photography clients out of that! Thanks Tyra.
you always seem so happy, positive and dedicated to your goals. do you ever get discouraged? if so, what do you to get back at it?
I’m on drugs. Want some?
I am mostly positive these days but discouragement comes around mainly due to my impatience. My main issue is anxiety though, which is the silliest of all issues considering you can talk yourself out of it and breathe through it. I try to combat being discouraged or anxious by doing deep breathing, listing the reality of the situation down on paper, thinking through the problem and getting to what my REAL issue with the situation is and handling that however it needs to be handled. I try to stay positive by doing affirmations, meditating and journaling.
Thanks for asking the questions guys, sorry it took me so long to respond. I now have my formspring as a bookmark so I’ll answer in a timely manner from now on.
