I have zero desire to cloth diaper BabyH.
I’ve been reading up on the whole cloth diapering “movement” (if u will) and thought it may be good to:
- be nice to the earth
- save money
- put something natural on my baby’s privates
If we’re being 100% honest here….the main reason I wanted to cloth diaper at first is cuz the baby tushie looks SO cute in em:
But after months of research. I say. No thanks.
First off, it seems that if I wanted to purchase a quality brand with great reviews and have a cleaning service for them. I wouldn’t save any money over disposables. I’d spend more. There are a bunch of great services in NYC if you’re interested though. www.diaperkind.com starts at 35/week. (not in my budget boo)
If I purchase a decent reviewed brand and wash them myself, I’d save money at the initial cost, but pay for it in laundry costs, and it wouldn’t be until baby number 2 when I see some real savings by reusing the diapers.
PLUS (main reason alert!)– i’d have to wash shitty diapers. And really, isn’t it great to just throw them stinkers out? Once my brother started eating solid foods he made some doozies in those diapers of his. I may or may not be scarred for life by them. I’d never want to have more contact with those stink bombs than I absolutely have to.
And good news: I can still use adorable diaper cover thingies that will make my disposable diapered baby tushie look just as cute!
If there was a huge cost benefit or a cheaper diaper service I would totally do it, but honestly, with coupons and purchasing at discount stores or “bulk” stores, I won’t be so bad off. My new mom friends all rave about target brand diapers and they’re cheapies too. I’m going to use whatever fits BabyH well, and doesn’t bust holes in my wallet.
Plus I think if I do end up having a baby shower, I’ll ask everyone to just bring loads of diapers for us.
Did you use disposables or cloth diapers? Have you tried both and which do you prefer if so? What brand of diapers do you use? Which others have you tried? Gimme the scoop!!
