Pinned Up Braids And BraidOut

So I’ve gotten a few emails asking how I wear my hair when I’m at home.  It depends but having my hair in two braids that are pinned up in the back is a common style. (or a bun on top of my head)

I just wash, condition, moisturize and make two low braids. Low meaning ear-level or below. Often right at the nape.

Then I just pull the braids over to the opposite side and use a bobby pin to tuck the ends under to keep them safe.

 

I had to run out to Target with hubby so I just unbraided (they were just about dry, but not 100%) and put half up in a braidout.  Whenever I do a braidout from two low braids I will wear it half up because the top is never matching in texture with the bottom part.  This is because the top isn’t braided and the bottom is. :)

Braided Bun Protective Style

I did a quickie braided bun protective style the other day and wanted to share with you.  I still haven’t tried this braided bun I showed you before, but I may try it this coming week.  The bun I did do, kinda reminded me of it though.

I detangled in the shower and co-washed with Giovanni 50:50 Conditioner

Then smoothed Shea Butter Miracle Buttery Creme through my hair (it smells great!)

Then I parted my hair on the side:

 

And made three braids:

 

Then I just pinned the braids up into a bun.  I started with the middle braid and made a bun, then worked the other two braids around it and bobby pinned it to death.

 

I dug it.  And my ends were protected, which is the most important part for me when it comes to my retention of length.

Wash and Go

I’ve been wearing my hair straight for most of the year.  That ends now.  The weather is warmer and I’m not working outside the home anymore so I will be a curly girl once again.

I washed with my husband’s shampoo – BJ’s brand (sulfate and paraben free) Moisturizing Shampoo

I conditioned with my husband’s conditioner – V05 (I forget which flavor)

(Was too lazy to step out of the shower to get my products out of the closet….don’t judge me lol :) )

I squeeze-dried and smashed the ends only w/ a towel, but no rubbing, just a smash. (I’ll make a vid to show what I mean)

The only product I used in this wash and go was Curls brand Curly Creme Brule.  I had my hair in 4 sections and put a fair amount on each section and then just left my hair alone.

Since there was no hold agent, I got a fluffier (read: frizzier) wash and go than I normally get.  I’ve only used the Curly Creme Brulee alone once before when I was using it to write a review.

I don’t mind frizz or fluff so I’ll happily use it solo again, but when I want a defined curl, some hold and less (or no) frizz, I’ll pair it with mixed chicks or another product to get some definition.

It was very soft to the touch though.  Honestly it felt like my hair was just moisturized and nothing else was in it.  I dug that a lot.  No crunchies whatsoever.
