Save on Gas w/ the Fuel Rewards Network Program

Do you use rewards cards? Have you ever used one for gas? You already know I try to find the best deals on everything. And with gas prices what they are, and John having to drive in and out of NYC every day for work, it’s a big expense. He’s already started taking the train on certain days, but I signed up for the Fuel Rewards Network™ program, or FRN™ program, to help out a little more.

We already have rewards cards for grocery and drug stores we frequent, but never had one for gas. I was unsure of how it would work out and if the savings would be significant at all, but it’s really easy and can save John a lot at the pump! If you have a travel benefits credit card, it kinda works in a similar way, in that everything you purchase (whether at Shell, or online or at other stores) gives you rewards. Instead of points towards travel like on other cards, this gets redeemed for money off per gallon of gas!

You can also link the FRN Card to your other cards, for example, link it to your local participating grocery store card and it will automatically apply the purchases to your FRN Card to be redeemed for savings on gas! You don’t have to do anything else. I love when programs just make it easy for me to save money. You can get rewards from dining out and (my fave) shopping online too! When shopping online you get more rewards faster, because some stores give you 5x or 10x bonus rewards for shopping with them.

On average, members are saving $0.31 per gallon on fuel at Shell through the Fuel Rewards Network program (according to fuelrewards.com on 5/6/13). That adds up! And that’s just the average; you can save much more, depending on what your habits are. You can sign up at any Shell station, or you can be lazy like me and sign up online at FuelRewards.com to just pick up at the Shell station (or lazier still, have your card and membership info mailed to you after signing up online.)

We’re driving down to Baltimore for our cruise next month and it’s my goal to fill up before we leave and pay like zero cents for gas! (Okay, okay, not zero cents…but a really low price so John can be surprised.) Sign up at FuelRewards.com and check out the FRN program page on Facebook: HERE as well.

Huggies Little Movers Slip-Ons Review (and coupon!)

huggies little movers slip on diaper pants

You guys already know I’m searching for the “best” diaper for Roey, and shortly after I posted about it, the opportunity to review Huggies Little Movers Slip-On Diaper Pants came to me! (Thank you law of attraction!) They said these diapers were perfect for babies that are newly standing and walking so that was perfect for my little guy.

I saw the commercial for these diapers several times and was thinking….there’s no way I’d be able to diaper this kid while he’s on the move like that. Those kids were running, jumping, climbing, and the diapers were slipped on so easy, and staying put!

Challenge Accepted!!

I got the box of Huggies Little Movers Slip Ons and immediately ripped it open and decided it was time to change Roey, even though he was changed like 5 minutes before. Luckily, he had peed so I didn’t feel wasteful. I grabbed him, wiped him and let him go, of course he “ran” squealing away.

I stalked my prey, diaper in hand, waited till he paused at his little push toy and slipped one leg into the diaper, which looks like cute little tigger underwear by the way. He was confused, he thought he could run around nakey, but no….then…slip….other leg into the diaper, and I pulled them up over his lil buttbutt before he knew which way was up.

I released my prey back into the wild (read: the living room) and he was off and running again. No muss no fuss.

I watched for any difference in the way Roey was walking to see if there were any fit issues, but he seemed to be totally fine. The diapers  are super stretchy, and also snug without being tight. The sides open so if you needed to adjust them looser or tighter you could, but they fit perfectly, and with the stretchiness I think they’ll stay fitting perfectly for a while before needing to adjust.

They’re thin, soft, and move really well with all his activity. Roey’s been climbing on things, and squeezing himself into places he doesn’t belong, all with no leaks. We tried them overnight and no leaks then as well. I’m happy with these, and he’s happy I don’t have to change him the normal way. We no longer have to use a different brand during the day and night.

My only criticism is, whenever I see any pink or redness on Roey’s butt I slather him with butt cream. When I need to apply creams, it’s harder with him on the move, and then I feel like I have to be extra careful with pulling the diaper up over his bum. I can’t just yank and let him go the way I usually can with these slip ons because I don’t want cream everywhere.

Overall these Huggies Little Movers Slip Ons get two thumbs up from me. John says “Hey, they’re easier to use and he never leaks anymore. They’re impenetrable.”  So I guess that’s two thumbs up from him as well! haha.

Best of P&G Event

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’m so excited, last week I got to attend a P&G Event to highlight and promote their award winning products in their range of brands. First off, we got picked up in a car service…because we’re fancy like that…and were treated like royalty throughout the garden party themed event.

P&G spoiled us! Not only did we get to interact with experts on the many brands, but we got to play in photo booths, get our hair done, get eyelashes done, and get as much P&G products as our arms could carry.

The Best of P&G event was held in a cool Manhattan space and hosted by this cutie:

Terrence J and OKDani

Sorry John

Terrence J was an excellent host, charismatic, friendly, and seemed to want to be there, and not obligated to just to collect a check. (Refreshing!)

Now, are you aware that all of these brands in the circles behind me in that top picture are all under the P&G umbrella?

I didn’t know this until a few years back when scouring through the coupons that came in a sunday paper…I finally made the connection that it was a P&G Brandsaver…*duh!*

Tide, Pantene, Cover Girl, Olay, Tide, Cascade, Swiffer, Gillette, Dawn, Gillette, Febreeze….(there are more, but I’m lazy)… P&G is in every household somehow. We are definitely P&G people. I think the only P&G brand that I didn’t use before attending this event was Olay.

What I learned:

  • P&G is one award winning company! I didn’t realize how often CoverGirl beats out the high end makeup brands!
  • Every brand highlighted at the event has won multiple awards and is the leader in their field.
  • At the Olay station I learned the order to put product on my face. I didn’t know serum was supposed to be first. #girlfail
  • At the Gillette station I found out how to get john to use beauty health and wellness products! *wink*
  • P&G is ever expanding. They have the market cornered but are still developing loads of great products in every one of their brands

What I loved:

  • Terrence J – He’s so charming, and perfect as a host, totally in his element …. and he smells good. ::avoids eye contact::
  • The beautiful decorations/artwork made out of P&G products!
  • The vibe of most of the bloggers in attendence
  • The level of product knowledge from each of the experts at each product station
  • Being silly in the photobooth with Quiana from HarlemLoveBirds.com

What I “hated”:

  • that I couldn’t keep the town car and have the personal driver for ever
  • that the delicious pineapple mocktail was in such a small glass. I could’ve chugged a gallon!
  • that I didn’t make the most of my chattiness and meet more people

I’m very grateful that I was able to attend. Thank you to SheSpeaks and P&G. I was asked to review the event in exchange for attendance. All thoughts are honest and my own.

Trying out SIMPLY RIGHT Baby Care from Sams Club

Simply Right logo

I know we just spoke about diapers and in that post I mentioned I wanted to try Sam’s Club’s diapers (SIMPLY RIGHT) and BOOM! I get this opportunity to try out the Simply Right diapers and wipes! Can we say…law of attraction!?

Buying SIMPLY RIGHT diapers can save you up to $392 a year over buying other brands. I could totally use that savings! (I’d be a smart mommy and put it straight to Roey’s bank account…or maybe I’d be irresponsible and put it toward a future vacation LOL)SIZE 3-228_redesign

We tried the diapers this past week on Roey and I liked that they were thin and didn’t have a scent. It made me feel like they were less chemically for some reason. If I had to compare them to another brand It would be a scent-less version of LUVS or maybe similar to the Babies R Us brand diapers. They were soft, and the elastic was durable around the legs and the waistband.

Speaking of the waistband, they had great fit. I mentioned before that Roey has “sized out” of size 3 diapers in certain brands, but these fit really well. We didn’t try them at night, but during the day there were no leaks at all.

The packaging says:

The diapers have a 3-Point Soft Stretch® System for a custom fit to help prevent leaks.

And I believe it. I noticed that when the diaper got full and Roey was crawling and cruising around, the diaper didn’t hang, it still moved with him.

The Simply Right wipes… I LOVE! They are soft and thick, and have a scent, but just barely. They’re hypoallergenic and really gentle for Roey’s skin (Cheap Irish Skin as John calls it, because it turns red for any little thing!) They are pretty hearty and I would say they’re in my top 3. I like them better than Pampers. I also like how they’re packaged. Perfect for use at home or to pop in the diaper bag. The clasp on the packaging actually stays closed, unlike the Kirkland brand’s clasp.

Have you tried Simply Right Baby Care products? If so how did you like it? If not, do you want to?

Pantene Pro-V Truly Natural Collection Review and Giveaway

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Back in my texlaxed days I was a Pantene Pro-V stan!! I used it exclusively all through jr high and high school, and part of college.  I think I was addicted to the scent! During my transition I started experimenting with more products but Pantene conditioners still held a special place in my heart for co-washes or regular conditioning.

A while back I had the good fortune to attend an event for the Pantene Expert Collection range of hair products and got to sample the Age Defy line (which is awesome by the way.) (I told you about that event here) As an ex-Pantene junkie I was excited to attend and learn more about the brand.

Since most of my readers here are natural or transitioning, I thought you’d be more interested in reading about the Truly Natural Collection that Pantene Pro-V offers.

I tried the Clarifying Shampoo and the Deep Conditioner and I will say I loved them both!

Shampoo:

I tried this on straightened hair that was dirty (really dirty…like almost two weeks dirty) and oily. I did one long shampoo, and it really left my hair feeling clean. I do feel that if I used it weekly or every few days, that it would be a little bit too strong for me. I don’t like squeaky clean and I feel that if I didn’t use it on such dirty/greasy hair, I would’ve been left with that squeaky clean feeling. This may be good for some of you because I know a lot of people love that feeling.

Conditioner:

I didn’t use heat with this deep conditioner. I slathered it on and squeezed it down the length of my hair and then kept it on for about 15 minutes. I then detangled with a wide tooth comb and my hair was like butter! The detangling effects of this conditioner were excellent. I got great slip and detangling was very easy. My only issue with this conditioner is: It’s called a “deep conditioner” so in my mind that means to leave it on for a while… but the instructions are very vague. It just says “apply after shampoo and rinse” (I’m exaggerating for effect, but it really doesn’t give much direction). My hair felt great after using it though.

Overall I am happy with both the shampoo and conditioner in the Truly Natural range from Pantene Pro-V and will be checking stores near me to try the rest of the line. I’d recommend it to anyone who wants a squeaky clean clarifying shampoo, and a moisturizing conditioner full of slip!

Next time: I’ll try the deep conditioner either with heat, or leaving it on for a prolonged time to see if the softness/moisturizing benefits are even greater.

Thanks to the generous folks at Pantene for sponsoring this giveaway so one of you girls will be able to try the entire range!!

One lucky reader will receive:

  • Pantene Pro-V Truly Natural Clarifying Shampoo
  • Pantene Pro-V Truly Natural Deep Conditioner
  • Pantene Pro-V Truly Natural Defining Curls Custard
  •  Pantene Pro-V Truly Natural Shine Serum With Argan Oil

Winner will be chosen on March 31 and announced on the LongNaturalHair Facebook Page!

GOOD LUCK!!
