Oh Pinterest, how you make my life so much better. How you inspire me to do cute things I’d never think up myself.
And…dearest Oriental Trading…. how you make things so affordable…
Well, Kaya’s turning one. Can you believe how fast this year went?!
Her birthday party theme is going to be butterflies.
Why butterflies? Well…cuz… I like butterflies lol.
We don’t have a themey nickname for her.
Rohan was nicknamed Sharkie, so a shark theme worked perfectly.
Kaya…not so much.
My cousin calls her the thug princess (not very good for a 1 year old)
John and I call her Onna. Short for On a mission….which is how she looks when she’s powercrawling and powercruising around the house like a mad woman.
Side note: Kaya’s name was going to be Ananda, but I didn’t want to call her Ana or Ani for short…and now I’m calling her Ana after all… ::sigh::
She also doesn’t have a lovey yet, or anything she seems particularly drawn to.
So… butterflies it is.
Look at some of my inspiration.
Now, I’m no crafty mama, so my party’s going to be way more simple.
It’ll be a backyard BBQ just like we had for Ro’s first birthday party.
(It’ll also be the first event thrown at our home, and I”m full of anxiety because we have zero places for people to sit!!)
I’m thinking an easy menu of BBQ burgers, dogs, chicken, veggies, a fruit salad, salad, chips n salsa/guac and that’s it…. ok and maybe ribs… (My family has this thing of overcooking, and making enough food to feed four cities… it’s crazy. Not on my watch.)
Of course we’ll do cake and cupcakes.
We’ll have some games for the kiddies, and cute butterfly wings ‘n stuff….gotta figure out the goodie bag gifts…
One thing I think I’m going to do is hire a photographer. We’ll see. (Depends on if my free photographer – read: my brother – will be coming into town for it.) I’m debating it…
