Welp….did my first henna/indigo treatment on Saturday. I wanted my hair dark again….and I got it.
Got my bathroom dark too.
Oh…and I started hacking away with my scissors…..
It started with Henndigo (black henna from Kalyustan’s downtown – they call it black henna, but it’s henna and indigo mixed together)
PS – you can check your indigo by doing a water test and a paper towel test. Put a lil bit of the powder in water and a blue film will come on top of the water. Or put a bit on a paper towel with a drop of water and it’ll bleed blueish into the paper. If that doesn’t happen…it’s not indigo.
I mixed it with a cup of apple cider vinegar, and a lotta water into a paste then applied it to my hair. It felt like it took forever. It was SO heavy….and SO messy….(John was pissed.) I left it on for only an hour with saran wrap and plastic bags on my head and then rinsed it out.
Now, rinsing…took forever. I realize now, I should’ve sifted the henndigo first because i had rocks, twigs, leaves, squirrels, all kindsa wildlife in my hair…I still might have some ish in there actually.
But I got out of the shower and the color was darker and I was happy. The bits in front of my hair were SUPER light after we got back from vacay and it annoyed me. Those areas are brown now, and the rest of my hair is very dark brown and my roots are black. It looks like I have brown highlights now!! When I do this indigo business again in a couple weeks it’ll likely all be a nice dark dark brownblack.
I then did a lil snippedy snip. OK, I did a hatchet job. I want to stay at a shorter length for a while and I swear I wish I knew how to cut layers into my own hair. I did this cut the bootleg way. I pulled it all into a low pony, slid the band down and cut off a few inches. Then I pulled it up into a high pony on top of my head and slid the band to a few inches from the end, and snipped again.
OK, no more talking. Here’s the result:
hardest fakest smile everrrr |
….On Friday I’ll go get it evened up a bit more and have some layers cut in to shape it and make it round and full and nice. I like having more curls with it shorter though, the ends curl instead of making weird waves. I just want the bottom bit to be a lil less “heavy” looking though and it’ll be perfect.
Happy July Everybody!!
Have you changed anything about your look lately?
<3 IT! I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE YOU TOOK SCISSORS TO YOUR OWN HAIR…I WISH I COULD, BUT I BELIEVE THAT I'D BE TOO TEMPTED TO PULL A BRITNEY ALA 2007…IM ACTUALLY ON MY WAY TO GET MY HAIR JAPANESE STRAIGHTENED, I AM WAY OVER DUE AND IT'S BEEN ONE GROSS SUMMER OF PUFFY HAIR…
Ahhh I had a mini break down slicing some "chin length" bangs in my hair lol (so hard to let it go) I want to do henna so bad but I feel the fiance will have the same reaction as your honey! I wish a salon would do it for me….
I love your hair. I'm natural too. For a while I thought about going back to relaxers because my hair just will not corporate with my flat iron to stay straight (I have a chi) but reading your post convince me to keep my hair natural. Thanks for the inspiration.
Oh I"m also on LHCF @makeupgirl
your hair looks amazing! i can't believe you chopped it by yourself!!! you did a great job!
Dani! I can't believe you cut your hair! It looks great though. I'm trying to grow mine waist length and have been following some of your suggestions. Hopefully I can make it there!
Wow I can't believe you cut it..but it's nice!
