Whether you’re starting your first pregnancy or nursing a newborn, expecting and new mom’s need many different supplies to survive the first year. Although you may be ready with a decked-out nursery and a stack of diapers, there are several items that you’ll love both before and after the birth. Take a look at these items to jog your mind during shopping to avoid any newborn frustrations.
1. Pre-Natal Photo Shoot
Although many women complain about weight gain and their overall looks during pregnancy, the human body is creating a brand new person, making a late pregnancy photo shoot something you’ll cherish forever. Capture the beauty of being “with child” as a professional photographer lavishes you with attention and fun props. They often airbrush or strategically cover embarrassing areas, if you are concerned about appearances. Most of the time, it’s just the pregnant belly that is the star rather than you. You’ll enjoy the photos in years to come when your little one is off to school.
2. Maternity Leggings
As your baby grows in the womb, normal clothing will not be comfortable anymore. Invest some money in several pairs of maternity leggings. You’ll want to wear these leggings every day because of their support features. The elastic band around the waist is more of a cradle for the growing baby, giving you some support as you walk around. Some leggings even provide leg compression to help circulation during the last trimester. Pick up several colors and use one each day to stay relaxed during the entire pregnancy.
3. Body Pillow
It’s nearly impossible to sleep on your back during the last trimester, relegating you to a side position. Keep your arms, legs and belly supported with a sturdy body pillow. As you cuddle with the pillow, your limbs remain in a more natural position, providing comfort all night long. Even the baby can rest slightly on the pillow to avoid any strain on the back during sleep. After the baby is born, you can continue to use the body pillow during recovery.
4. Lots Of Burp Cloths
You may have been showered with cute baby outfits, onesies and socks, but you’ll really love a huge stack of burp cloths. All babies are messy, especially in the first few months. You’ll find yourself wiping up spit-up, milk and other spills throughout the day. Most of those spills are typically on the baby’s face or hands. Burp cloths are large enough to swing over your shoulder to protect your shirt from staining, along with being soft enough to wipe your baby’s skin when necessary. A standard washcloth or paper towel just won’t do.
5. Teething Toys
Those baby teeth will soon appear, but new moms may not be aware teething is happening until a tooth erupts. If you find your baby is crying and irritated more often than not, keep several teething toys around. Although the tooth may not be showing, teething still creates an uncomfortable feeling in the jaw. Each baby prefers a different teething toy as well. You won’t know which one works the best until you offer several different ones. Keep trying toys until the baby is content.
These items are some of the top products you’ll love during and after pregnancy. Observe your baby and try different items until they are satisfied. Each mom finds their unique way to soothe themselves and their child as the days pass after pregnancy.
