Which Diapers Are Best?

full diaper

What diapers do you use? Are you loyal to a certain brand? Any “off brand” diapers you’d recommend?

I’m on a mission to find the best and cheapest of the bunch so I can get the best quality for the least money.

We’ve tried so many brands, and here are our thoughts:

  1. EVERY brand had leaks
  2. EVERY brand had blow outs
  3. EVERY brand gave Roey a lil redness/irritation at one point or another

So ultimately you just have to be picky about whatever matters to you.

For me, I want the diapers to be quickly absorbent, fit well, be slim/light, and feel nice. I change him a thousand times a day so during the day high absorbancy matters slightly less.

Pampers (sensitive, swaddlers, cruisers)

Pampers are the most popular brand around. I hear so many people say that nothing works like Pampers but I’ve found no difference in them except overnight. Now that the Shark sleeps through the night, we needed something that would be thick and absorb everything. So far, for the nights, Pampers Cruisers wins because in the morning the diaper, though puffy, heavy and full, doesn’t feel damp at all or like it’s about to burst. The price sucks though. We try to get them on sale and with coupons that are stackable. I also don’t like how thick and big they can be (cruisers) during the day. I kinda think it limits Roeys mobility.

Luvs

I luv luvs! They are light, thin, absorbent and the price is much better than Pampers. Also, the sizes fit Sharkie longest. He’s been “sized out” of size 3 in a few brands, but still fitting it in Luvs. They work well for his chunky thighs. I love that while Luvs are really absorbent, they don’t get too puffy. Overnight they work just OK. I feel like they’re about to burst when I change Sharkie in the mornings, but leaks are rare. The negative I have with Luvs is that they’re lightly scented and I kinda feel it’s not necessary, just an added item that could possibly irritate a baby’s sensitive skin.

Huggies

I love Huggies also! (Especially when they’re on a good sale and I’ve got coupons!) They don’t fit the best though. Roey’s not fitting a 3 in them anymore, but is a 3 comfortably in most other brands. I have nothing bad to say about Huggies otherwise. They’re in the running for my fave diaper.

Walgreens

My dad came home with a pack of Walgreens diapers for Roey and I was like oh lord lemme find the Beudrauxs Butt Paste in advance cus this is gunna jack my baby up. I was pleasantly surprised by these. No redness or irritation. They were thin and felt like paper and I was certain they were going to leak….and they did…but just a little and it was overnight so I gave them a pass. During the day and the million of diaper changes, they were more than OK! I wouldn’t buy them unless in a pinch because I didn’t like the way the paper felt.  It was just not soft enough.

Target

Not a fan. They don’t absorb quickly enough. To be fair, I tried them back when Sharkster was exclusively breastfed and his #2s were liquidy. I would wait for him to do the do and immediately take off the diaper. Other brands would be soaked up already (read: huggies, pampers, luvs, kirkland) but Target, I open them up, and there was a little pool in there! Not cool. Also, it felt like I was going to stretch the elastic out with any adjustment I would make to the fit. This was disappointing because we usually dig the Target brand items. I heard good things about their diapers too.

Babys R Us

I am currently using a pack of these because they were on sale and while in Baby’s R Us this woman next us (read: big liar) said they were the best ever. Um… No. These bad boys can’t hold up to my son’s movements. They’re nice and thin which I like, but they feel papery like the Walgreens diapers and they puff up so huge with just one drop of pee. Roey can’t maneuver. I honestly thought he put a toy down the front of his pants when I saw him. I was about to be proud and amazed at his dexterity….then I realized it was just a puffy ol’ diaper! They also feel like I’ll mess up the elastic when I adjust them.

Walmart

These are similar to the Walgreens ones. I haven’t tried them recently. My aunt got them for us when Sharkie was in Florida because a huge box was 5.95. They didn’t feel nice, but they soaked up fairly well. I got loads of leaks in them in the night, and this was early on so I’d change him in the nights too.

Costco (Kirkland)

I. Love. Kirkland. Brand. Diapers. (and they’re my favorite wipes in all the land as well) They are light, absorbent, elastic is strong, no scent, and the price is right. Only negative is that they don’t fit well as long as others. The Kirkland diapers really remind me of Huggies. I feel like they’re the exact same. Sharkie has “sized out” of the size 3 though. They last through the night well, and they have very few leaks, just like Pampers.

I’m hesitant to pick a favorite, but if I had to pick one I think it would be Huggies…or Luvs and Kirkland as a tie. The cost is right, and the quality is there. I’m going to try Sam’s Club’s brand soon and see how I like it.

We tend to use Luvs during the day and Pampers at night. When he sizes up to size 4 we’ll use Luvs in the day and Kirkland at night.

I want to try Huggies Overnights (but they’re PRICEY!) have you tried them?!

  1. Oh diapers!! lol. We’re still clothing but I used `sposies for when he goes to my moms and at church. My go-to has been Pampers. No issues whatsoever. I wait for the huge diaper sales and get my coupons together and buy enough to fit multiple children. Any extra he doesn’t get to before sizing up I use to make diaper cakes for baby showers. :) We tried Huggies and Avery blew them out like it was his job! I wanted to take a picture and send it to them so they could revise their commercials lol.
We haven’t ventured out to other brands though. I can say that with cloth he’s never had a diaper rash…ever! They are super absorbent and work great through the night. (I use Flip diapers for overnight and Kawaii during the day) Both are about $7 a diaper… but you buy them once and reuse. We have a collection of 18 and that lasts us through a work week.

  2. We’ve been using Pampers for our daughter when she was little and continued when LittleZ was born. We like them because there hasn’t been any leaks for us and no reddness. As for overnight, as long as they fit right, they are pretty good. For wipes though, we go with BJ’s brand Unscented. I love the way these feel, and it feels like its’ getting my baby’s butt clean. Pampers wipes are good (we used them for years) but I don’t see us leaving BJ’s any time soon.

When they are older and they are potty training, my daughter outgrew the palmers pull ups, so we’ve been using the Pampers Under jams only at night. No leaks at all.

  3. HUGGIES!! only.always, for both kids, I have a 11 year old and 19 month old..O_o lol the other either leak or have those balls in the morning..#nobueno

  4. Happy that stage was over but loved cloth diapers especially the $$$ ;-) Oh and the thin disposable liners they make nowadays make the poop a non-issue. When we did use disposables for traveling and when we moved to an apt without a w/d the BJs brand sufficed, but I’ve heard that Jessica Alba’s Honest Company line is outstanding. I would consider those for Baby #2 (someday far away) as my travel diaper!

  5. Diapers….what is this you speak of lol. I didn’t like Huggies to many leaks I always had accidents in Huggies for some reason the accident that had me throwing away clothes because the diaper didn’t hold well. I use to use pampers and sticked with them for both of my kids I would do the cheap brands around the house and if we went out I would use the pampers.
