4 Months of Roey

Oh my dear big boy is 4 months. Sometimes it’s amazing that he even exists, and it’s crazy to me that I am responsible for this little life, and then sometimes it feels like the most normal and natural thing in the world, as if he’s been with us forever. Both feelings kinda weird me out sometimes.

Weight

He’s heavy! We took him to the doctor on the 9th and he was 16.10, so he’s gotta be 17 by now. So, how about we went to a 1 year old’s bday party on Saturday and she was 18lbs. How is this boy weighing almost as much as a 1 year old?! Jeez.

Clothes

He’s wearing size 6 onesies and some size 3-6 sleepers but mostly size 6. Pants he can fit 3-6, and one pair of 0-3 is still fitting over his thunder thighs. Kinda sucks that he’s outgrowing clothes so fast because some of my favorite cute lil outfits are donezo.

Diapers

He’s in size 3 diapers and going through them like gangbusters. This kid loves to pee and poop! I’m in the middle of reading The Diaper Free Baby and may consider implementing Elimination Communication after all. I can’t believe I’m even thinking this way… I’m getting more granola every day. ::shrug::

Eating

We are still breastfeeding on request and he’s doing well with it. It’s still about every 2 hours during the day. I haven’t been pumping so the nighttime bottle with cereal has been phased out. But I’m going to stop being lazy about pumping and add it back in. Mainly so that John can feed him too. We tried giving him cereal with a spoon for the very first time last night, just to try it. That tongue thrust reflex is still going strong, so we’ll try again in a few weeks or so. He’s showing an interest in food now, but his body’s just not ready for it it seems.

Naps

I am getting a morning nap, an afternoon nap and sometimes an evening nap. They’re short though. At this point, I’m just grateful for anything.

Nighttime

Sharkie’s nighttimes were great. He’d go down around 10, wake around 5 to nurse, and go down for another 3-4 hours. Then he got a cold, and went back to waking every 5 hours. He’s starting to go back to his usual self now, and we’re getting him to bed earlier. Around 9-9:30 now. We’re co-sleeping after his early morning wake-up. Mainly because I’m tired and don’t feel like taking him back to his crib. Still no “sleep training” yet.

Likes

• being upright and walking around
• daddy’s games
• talking and singing and screaming
• pulling off glasses, pulling hair, pulling off stickers…just..pulling
• eating his hands, your collarbone, anything nearby…
• the remote control (the one you’re using, not the other one)

Dislikes

• photoshoots (breakin’ my heart this lil boy is)
• being cradled
• being in an unmoving car
• getting his face wiped off in the mornings
• being still
• cold wipes during diaper changes

Milestones

• laughing! Oh god it really is the best sound (typical mom)
• trying to sit up, he balances on one arm or both sometimes
• finding his penis
• scooting more efficiently, but still slow
• turning toward sounds more intentionally (still doesn’t turn at his name being called)
• smiles at peekaboo now, instead of giving me a confused/screwface

He’s really growing up. I love how he can now engage himself for longer periods. He’s starting to develop his reaching and grabbing and talking more intentfully. I feel like I can see the gears turning in his little head as he makes connections in that brain of his. He made it through his first cold, and now is dealing with a bit of excema on his cheek. He’s still a drooly mess and hopefully the teething starts and he doesn’t go through too much pain with it.
