Pinterest Nursery Inspiration

So John and I have nailed down a place to live.  We won’t be moving until April 1, fools that we are ;) , so until then I have time to pack, pare down, and of course….obsess about decorating.  I won’t be doing too much, because  I’m doing Operation Penny Pinch (thanks Katie) but I’ll definitely do a bit of prettifying, especially to Embry’s room.

Pinterest, AKA Awesomeness sent from above, has lots of ideas for a DIY Nursery, and just random baby nursery stuff in general.  I don’t know why I am developing an “I can totally do this” attitude to the DIY stuff, but I’m going to roll with the confidence and try a few things.

Wall Color

Harbor Blue from Pottery Barn Kids (Benjamin Moore’s Line)

Accent Colors: Orange, Teal, Yellow(?), Green(?)

 I like this:

Still not sure if I want to go dark or light or white with the furniture…

I will probably go by price on the glider, and get this style:

And for crib and dresser/changing station (I’m just putting a pad on top of a dresser) we could go:

For the color...which do you like?

As for the DIY Items:

Wall name: Definitely this classic style versus the hanging from a ribbon style.  I’ll just paint it in one of the accent colors or use scrapbook paper with fun designs in the accent colors to cover the wood letters.

Or I can go this route w/ the yarn:

just nix the flower and pretend it’s mounted on a wall.

Above the crib or changing station I’d like to make something cute to hang from the ceilings.  The poms I see all over pinterest are cute, but too girly for Embry’s room.  I saw a cool yarn design that I hope I can pull off.

I’d do it in all the accent colors.  Super cute.  The tutorial is HERE if you’re interested.

What do you think?  My mom thinks the wall color is too pale..I may warm it up..but not sure.  I’ll be back with pinterest inspiration for the living room and bedroom!

What color is/was your nursery?  Did you do any DIY items? Know where to find inexpensive nursery furniture?

  1. Such great colors and ideas. We are boring parents and just went with cream for T-man’s nursery. We didn’t move into our house until 5 weeks after he was born so that was probably the reason for our laziness.

Inexpensive furniture – Walmart all the way. We found the perfect Graco bed that we wanted then started shopping around. Walmart was the lowest price, almost $100 cheaper than babies r us.

  2. Oh how excited I am for you my dear. I see that bump and I think I like it lol. Well I am not a “baby” person, but I do love the Yarn Chandelier and the book selections are perfect! I love the colors in the first room and Dark furniture is the way to GO!

  3. I don’t think the wall is too pale because you have ideas for accent colors that will make everything come together. i am torn between the dark brown and white baby furniture. not sure what i would do but i really like your inspirations!

congrats on the new place :)

  4. Nice colors. I agree with Faith that the wall color isn’t too pale because all your other colors will bring it out. Our nursery colors are beige, tan, ivory, brown with lime green accents. My family says it’s a little bland but I didn’t want anything to wild. I wanted it to have a calm feel to it. My aunt made us a wooden wall name plate that is adorable. I didn’t do anything DIY (was too busy). We went with the dark brown wood because the fabric colors were light. I like how it all turned out. We got our furniture from a little boutique in NC but the brand is carried all over (Million Dollar Baby). We got it at a good price too so that was great. BTW, I love the hanging lamps idea. Good luck–can’t wait to see what you decide on :)

  5. Hi Dani, been a silent follower of your blog for a little while. Congrats to you and your husband on baby Embry, you have such great energy sure u will be a terrific mom :)
Love that shade of blue it is not too pale at all, think you should go with the darker color furniture. My husband and I are expecting our first as well, 20wks along with our baby girl. Our nursery will be done on a strict budget. Wall color is beige and a light olive green, decor and bedding will have hints of pink. We decided on a convertible crib, dresser and conversion kit from Burlington Coat Factory, gifted by the inlaws, they paid around $1000 for everything. Sturdy and it looks more than its worth. Like that glidder pic! eyeing a similar one at Walmart for $130+ that Baby’s R Us has for $280+. Decorations will be mainly from Home Goods, and Baby Gear most likely from Baby’s R Us.

  8. I like the nursery colors! I don’t think the wall color is too pale because your accent color will be super bold already. As for inexpensive nursery furniture… check Walmart, Target and even Big Lots. I think we’re getting a dresser from the latter that will serve as a changing table too. It was much cheaper than get getting a “nursery” changing table. Can’t wait to see what you decide! :)

  10. Stumbled across your blog and have been “silently following”. Just thought I’d pop over and say hi.

I love all things deco and really love the color scheme you picked out, it’s very modern yet still cozy! Also, the little yarn chandelier would look amazing as a mobile. Congratulations!

  11. OMG, LOVE the yarn laterns. I have no use for them at the moment but my crafty side really wants to make some!

  12. Those are great colors!

I rarely pin nursery stuff, as I am no where close to having a little one. But I do enjoy looking at nursery pics

  13. I LOVE all your ideas! And then teal. Duh. Because its my favorite color. And just FYI, I read somewhere that bright colors versus muted colors are better for a bavy’s nursery, that they like it better because it’s more stimulating to them :-) . I just act like I knew that with C … And I like the white furniture. Mainly because I have white in C’s room (with a vintage white distressed armoire and green distressed changing table/dresser) – LOVE LOVE your choices! Oh and you’re welcome for the name suggestion, so glad you used it!
