Bra Size Surprise

Do you remember when I told you about the woman who went from a B cup to a D cup?

Well, check out that post and then come read this one….cuz I am in shock and awe at my tig ol bitties rightabout now.

OK.

First Off.

Let me just say: If you’re considering a boob job, I urge you to try the pill instead.  Namely: Nordette

I was a 32B forever. When TOM would come around they would swell for a couple weeks a month to a 32C cup.

After starting this pill my breasts grew.  I started wearing 34Cs instead and they seemed to accommodate everything perfectly.

Until:

I went and got sized a couple weekends ago.

It was a really interesting experience.  I was fit by two different people who both came to the same conclusion.

They measured me in a bunch of places:

  • around my body under my armpits
  • around my body under my boobs
  • from neck to breastbone
  • from shoulder to top of boob
  • shoulder to armpit
  • armpit to armpit in front and back

(i think I’m forgetting some)

Then they asked me what size bra I was currently wearing, and when I told them 34C they looked shocked. (sidebar: one of the women had big eyes to begin with, and when she opened her eyes in horror at my bra she looked like her eyeballs were going to pop right out on the dressing room floor.)

They told me to put on my current bra, and they went point by point showing me fit issues all around the bra detailing why 34C is not the right size for me. Eye-opening, I tell ya.

They came back with a few styles and tried them all on me.  They were really great about showing me why each style/cut fit well or fit poorly on my body.

They also showed me certain things that were supposed to fit perfectly on all bras like:

  • the middle bit between your breasts is supposed to lay flat against your body
  • where the under-wire should sit, start and end
  • where there is not supposed to be any “meat” hanging
  • where the bands should lay on my shoulders
  • where the band in back should cut across
  • how loose/tight the bra should be

The fitters both kept reminding me to always try on before I buy and be sure it’s the proper fit before leaving the store with a bra.

I learned sooo much.  And in the bras she tried on me, my chest didn’t feel as heavy as it usually does.  I felt…supported!!  I was amazed.

So she gave me this handy dandy card that told me my new (BCP sponsored) bra size: 32DD.

My mouth dropped to the floor. (kanye’s throw some d’s remix popped in my head)

“Are you sure?”  I asked.

She looked at me and cocked her head like I was a precocious child and patted my shoulder while nodding.

Then she told me most women are wearing the wrong size bra and she repeated again the importance of me trying on my bras in the store and looking at the key fit points she showed me before purchasing one.

Still shocked
at how far off I was size-wise, I asked what section of the store I could find the right cuts for me in my size.

Guess what she tells me:

…..wait for it……

“Oh sweetie we don’t carry your size in the store.  You’ll have to order it online.”

WTF!!?

::sigh::

Have you been fitted before? If not do you think you ever will? If so, were you far off from your correct size? Where do you usually buy your bras and do you try on before you buy or order online?

  1. What a great post! I've heard many times that most women aren't wearing the correct size. And, it always seems like band size is too big and cup size is too small. Maybe it's because no regular store carries a big enough selection, so we're all trying to fit in what's available, not what's best.

  2. I need to go to a Victoria's Secret or somewhere and get a bra-fitting. Thanks for the heads up! That is pretty funny that you were so off. :) Based on that I'm sure that many girls are supposed to be wearing larger sizes than they do.

Is Nordette a pill you got from GYNO? Were there any side effects? I'm interested!

  4. Krysten @ After 'I Do' says:

Yep, 38DD right here. And that's AFTER I got a reduction. The problem is that I've gained a significant amount of weight (thanks hubby) and my girls decided to grow with me. Uncool.

  5. Yolanda "Yogi" Allen says:

LOL remind me not to get on Nordette!! Girl I got measured years ago but I'm still the same size! Throw some D's on it for real….my body would look too weird if I was ever that big….I'll keep my B cup, thanks! ha!!

But yea there are a lot of women wearing the wrong bra size….get fitted ladies!!

  6. Dani @ OK, Dani says:

Yogi – i thought the same thing. When I hear D I think porn star, but honestly, they fit and You're like my size bodywise You'd look fine, don't worry you wont tip over LOL

Krysten – that's AFTER a reduction? No Nordette for you!!

Mixed girl – the only side effect is mega boobs and a lil weight gain. I gained about 4 lbs total. (other effects are positive: clearer skin, shorter less painful periods)

Lena – let us know how your fitting goes!

Melissa – you're probably right about the accessibility. And also probably misguided ideas of what sizing/fit is all about.

I hate bra shopping and I have to do it next weekend.

I am a different size EVERY time I go! I now avoid Victoria's because 3 women in the store all gave me different results but yes…I was shocked the first time I went and found out about the way the straps should lay and such. It was SHOCKING! Why doesnt everyone know this?? Why dont they teach this in school!??!

http://myintimacy.com/ is the only site I trust now. She has shops all over the country she has certified to be experts like herself.

I am so glad you had the FULL experience though…and they are right…try BEFORE you buy. It changes everything knowing all this doesnt it??

Happy big boob bra shopping =) hehe

  8. Too funny! Great story. No I've never had a fitting, but I really ought to. I'm roaming around in a D, but I know it's too small. I can only imagine what it should be…

  9. I really need to go be fitted too I guess!! BTW I'm here to check in and see how your NaNoWriMo is going!?! I'm only about 3,000 words into it but I gotta keep going!!!

  10. dayyyyyammmmmmm look at you! va va voom! I need this pill!

  11. Hey Barbie says:

LOL about the throw some d's on it! My bcp made me lose weight, but my tata's got bigger. Maybe I will get a fitting. Great post, thanks for sharing with all of us.

  12. Fun and interesting post. I've never been measured before but my bras are pretty comfy. I have noticed an increase in my cup size since OCPs. Heck my whole body has changed–I've got a bootie now too. Also it has been difficult for me to maintain my once athletic body–now it's a struggle. I can't wait to get off them.

  13. Pammy Ponders @ Reflectorville says:

getting the correct fittin bra is life (well, wardrobe) chaning! I wear an e cup minimum, and at one point I was wearing a C until I got properly measured! great post – use ladies gotta keep em in place! x

  14. Ms. Emily Ann says:

Eeek… this kind of scares me, because I did discover that I was wearing the wrong size recently, so I got bumped from 34B to 32C…however, I have been on the pill for a very long time, so I am terrified of what might happen if I go off… What if I shrink back to a {gasp} A!

  15. Did you ever find a store that sells your size??? And cute ones? I HATE buying bra's. I used to be a 32 C and they fit perfectly but now I wear a 34B and they fit okay… Honestly, I really don't know what size I wear. I'd die if someone told me I was a D anything though, let alone a DD, lol. I guess my thought process is the same as yours was.

  16. Great post Lady!! I was fitted a couple of years ago and yea, I was in your shoes that day too!! I felt like the weirdest person in the world!! Diliards (sp) actually sells ur size (im a 34dd and they sell my size too!) and high behind Victoria secret…. but I usually buy mine from Vicky's… gives me an excuse to blow mindless money in there lol

  17. lol, I would not be taking Nordette unless I'm in committed relationship (preferably marriage), or stupid enough to have unprotected sex (its mostly emergency contraception). Having said that, our boobs do change as we get older, they tend to get bigger and mix that with birth control bills and your whole hormonal body gets out of wack.

I did measure my chest area few yrs back since all of my A cup bras would not fit me and learned I'm C38.

ps. there is this great article about birth control bills, food for thought:

  18. Dani @ OK, Dani says:

WOW! Bra size is a popular topic I see. Gotta keep the girls fitted properly lol. Thanks to you all for the input. I'm going to just order on victorias secret online and return what doesnt fit well.
