God Bless the Bookstore

I am not being dramatic when I say: I think bookstores may be my favorite place in the world. (Next to a beach, my bed and my grams house of course)

The first reason is that no matter how sloppy, fugly and mismatched I am, I will always, ALWAYS get hit on in a bookstore (shout out to borders on 33rd and 7th)

Now, I don’t entertain the men who hit on me, I politely reject them of course but its still an ego boost to get approached on the pick-up tip no mater how old, fugly, sloppy and married you are.  You know it’s true!

The second and main reason is that…well bookstores are fun! (Did I sound like the biggest geek saying that? I know I did didn’t I. Ha!)

But to me, they totally are! They’re a magical wonderland of ideas and entertainment and hope. Its like a genie that will fulfill any wish you may have.  Want to learn about fly fishing, there’s a book for that, want to escape into a whirlwind romance? Books for that.  Need a good scare? You can get that too.  Whatever your desire for the day you know your bookstore will provide.  Every whim I have I can just go to that section and get lost for a little while. I love it.

The other day, I had a 2 hour break at a temp gig (I did notes for a bacardi’s focus group) and I went straight to Barnes n Nobles to kill a few minutes. I swear time flew so fast it was incredible.  I must’ve browsed through 17,000 books though (give or take a few) and it was just so chillaxed and enjoyable.  I could’ve stayed all day.

I only purchased one book though. (not a baby book, I was so strong!)  I’m on a budget so my cheap self made a list to take to the second best wonderland…the library.  No new book smell and feel, but boy you can’t beat the price!

Am I the only one who could waste a day in a book store? There’s gotta be some other bookstore freaks out there! …Right? …Beuler?

Nursery Dreams

When I can’t sleep at night I have some go to things I think about to help me get drowsy.  The main one is imagining what I’d do if I won various sums of money in the lotto, and the other is mentally designing and then decorating my dream house room by room.  I always start with the bedroom, and I think I fall asleep before I’m even done with the master bath.

I love things like this:

But now that I’m sick in the head about babyness, I’ve started putting myself to sleep designing nurseries!  I’ve been getting into detail about how I will make the room grow with him (yes him, because we r having a boy first of course…Owen, or Carter perhaps lol) and never feel too masculine or too soft.

Anyway this morning I started thinking about it again so I came online to feed my nursery frenzy.  Take a look at these gorgeous nurseries!

Considering I’ve lived in my apartment since the beginning of last year and have yet to decorate or beautify the place, I doubt I’ll do anything as gorgeous as these, but it’s definitely fun to look at and daydream about!

What do you think of the nurseries? For the mom readers, when did you set up your baby’s nursery? (and more importantly, where can I see a pic!?)

Airdried Wash N Go – Post Cut

So I still dig the cut, despite the ends looking wonky in the back. I’ll be sure to pull and tug them into more even form when I wear wash n gos outside.  But I think I’ll be wearing my hair up or straight this winter anyway so it all works out.

I love the cut from the front though, it has more shape than my wash n goes before, and a lil more movement and energy if that makes sense.

Curly Hair Post-Cut

So I tried a wash n go today.

I used a product I’ve never used before from Carol’s Daughter called Hair Milk.

In these photos my hair is still wet, so I’ll take some later once it dries too.

I love it from the front and side, but the ends in the back, notsomuch.  I’ll see how it is once it’s fully dry.

There’s SO much less hair, it was so easy to wash and detangle and it’s drying a lot faster too.
Layers make a BIG difference.

My Uterus is Aching and I Love Freecycle

Okay, so you remember how I told you I ordered that baby book?

Well, now I have seven more.

1.  The Girlfriends’ Guide to Pregnancy by Vicki Iovine

2. Baby Bargains by Denise & Alan Fields

3. What to Expect When You’re Expecting by Heidi Murkoff & Sharon Mazel

4. Getting Ready for Baby: The Ultimate Organizer for the Mom-to-Be by Helen Tragos Stelian

5. A Child Is Born by Lennart Nilsson

6. Water Birth: The Concise Guide to Using Water During Pregnancy, Birth, and Infancy by Janet Balaskas & Yehudi Gordon

7. Natural Pregnancy by Zita West (forward by Kate Winslet! LOL!….wtf does she have to do with pregnancy?)

I’m starting a collection I guess. Ha!

Hence, why I love Freecycle.

If you don’t know what freecycle is, it’s a program/website (a yahoo group in NYC’s case) that allows you to post up ads of things you’re giving away that other people might want.  I give away my bags of clothes and books that way. You can also post ads of things you want….which is what my shameless babycraving ass did for the first time.

I posted that I was looking for pregnancy books and quickly got the best response from an angel in the East Village “I’ve got a bag of them, you can come take ‘em now”

I picked up a lovely sack of books from a woman who answered the door with her 3 month old latched on nursing and my uterus began to spasm!  I. Kid. You. Not.  I wanted to run home and attack John immediately and some conception goin’ on…. but I’m going to just keep my mouth shut, read my baby books and blogs and forums, and do my bid.

My sentence.

My time, until our (grudgingly) agreed upon date to start trying to conceive.

T minus 14 months and 3 days. But who’s counting?

I AM!!! For the love of God! (or whoever you prefer)

Anywaaayy…

I read the intros and skimmed each of the books so far and I love em! Especially the baby bargains book (cuz i love to pinch a penny), what to expect when you’re expecting (cuz it’s Q&A style and was recommended by a bloggie friend) and the girlfriend’s guide to pregnancy (cut it was recommended here and very cute so far).

There is so much to consider when getting pregnant and having children it’s just amazing.

Sidebar: I just got a flash of that movie Knocked Up when Seth Rogan is arguing with Katherine Heigl saying “Oh no I didn’t read the baby books, OH NO!!! How did anyone ever have a baby, before baby books were invented?!”

I know he was dripping in sarcasm, but umm…..I really don’t know how they did it because there is just SO FREAKING MUCH INFORMATION to take in and I know your doctor does not give you all of this info during your appointments.

I am glad I started reading these books now.  I have so much to learn and research!  I’ve got tons of time to get my fill before we start trying.  I’ll be sure to review the books here just in case you gals are interested in pickin’ some up.

Have you read any of the books listed?  How’d you like em?  Are you freecyclers too?
