Cardio Day

I ended up biking 30 minute and went 8.04 miles.
According to caloriesperhour.com I went an average of 16.1 miles per hour and burned 266 cals.

I’m pretty sore from yesterday’s workout. My hammies ache, and my back and chest a bit too.  But I feel good.

Free Weight Adventure

OK Why didn’t anyone tell me how much harder everything is with free weights?  WHY?!

Today for the first time I did the routine sent to me by Jerry.  My goodness it was hard!  And I cant even do heavy weights.  WTF!
I couldn’t make it to the gym so I improvised at home using my boyfriend’s dumbbells and his Iron Gym for pullups.

Today is Day 1 so I was to do 3 sets of 8 reps.

Full Squats – 40lbs total
First of all, I’ve NEVER done full squats before.  Even back in my track ‘n field days we did all kindsa squats, but not full, “ass to grass” squats.  I feel like I broke/snapped/popped a whole buncha ish in my booty/quads/hams/hips… YIKES is all I can say.

Bench Press – 2 sets at 20lbs total  1 set at 32lbs total
OK so I foolishly attempted to use the 20lb dumbbells to do my chest press, rationalizing that since I can do 40lbs on the chest press machine I could handle it.  WRONG!  I’ve come to the conclusion that I have zero stabilizer muscles lol.  I quickly took those plates off and put on the fives.  I did 2 sets with 10 in each hand then thought I was tough enough to up it to 16 in each hand…I was DYING at the last rep of the last set.

Pullups
TRAIN WRECK!  I can’t do 1 pullup. So John (boyfriend) helped me and for each set, I did 3 reps of “assisted” pullups and 5 negatives where I just tried to stay up as long as I could.

Shoulder Press- 20lbs total
Yet another thing that is way “easier” on machines in the gym.  I was a wobbly mess doing these bad boys, but I fought through my wiggle-ocity and banged it out!

Bicep Curls – 10lbs per arm
I can do 30-40lbs on the machine, but I was a wobbly mess at the end of each set with these 10lbs dumbbells. It’s really a whole new world.

Tricep Pushdowns – Dipped instead
Since I was home I figured I’d do those overhead extensions instead.  FAIL.  I tried holding tens in each hand and it was death. So I tried 5s and it was like nothing.  So I did 2 sets of dips on my coffeetable instead. and boy was that the right move.  Toward the end of each set I felt like I could just lay down and sleep till thursday.

Calf Raises – 20lbs total
For these I did one legged calf raises holding 10lbs in each hand.  I was wobbly as heck, but I got through it well.

YIKES is really all I can say.  This was so hard! I feel broken and tired.  I can’t wait to see my strength improve and my body change.

Jill Scott’s Hair

Loving it. SO loving it.  This is her hairstyle for her red carpet at one of the Why Did I Get Married Too premieres (i think).
She’s so ferocious with hers.  Makes me wish I could cornbraid my hair.  I’m going to find a way to copy cat this on my own….trust.

Makin Shea Goodies

Today I made my usual skin and hair moisturizer with a twist.

Usually I’ll take shea butter, melt it down, and either put coconut oil in it and let it solid up, or put the coconut oil in and whip it while semi-solid and then let it solid up.

This time I did a few things differently.  First off, I used Shea butter and Cocoa butter.  I also added a few drops of tea tree oil to the mix.  Some of the mixture I poured into a container seperately to solidify with additional coconut oil, to be an oilier consistency.  The other part, I whipped with my immersion blender and didn’t add any more coconut oil.

I should have taken more/better photos but I was kinda lazy.  Here’s what I did take:

Shea butter melting in bowl
This is how I set up the pot/bowl to heat the shea up.
There is water in the pot and it heats up the shea in the bowl resting on the pot

melting…melting…

puttin’ that immersion blender to work…

sorry it’s blurry

sorry it’s blurry too
Final results: this is the non whipped one:
This is the whipped one…but you can’t really tell….

FULL UPDATE…sorry about that last one…

So here’s the full story on what I reported to you in the quickie update:

Got headshots reprod from an old shoot, they’re good interim shots and I’m happy with them for now.
I used CityRepro for the first time and I liked the quality of the headshots. I’ll be using them again in the future.  The headshots are usable and several times better than what I was using before, but I’m still getting new shots taken. (likely in end of April/Early May – by either Bill Strong or Shane Maritch who both have great work that I can afford)

Had an impromptu audition last wednesday thanks to Brittney Pooler who called me to go in for a “sisters” call with her.
This was a pretty straightforward gosee, for…crate & barrell…i think? It was great seeing Brittney again for even just a few minutes.  It was at Urban, where I booked that Clinique industrial.  The woman I worked with on that wasn’t there, I think I’ll mail over a HS/Rez to stay fresh in homegirl’s mind so she’ll start calling me in again :)

Missed an audition on Saturday for a web series :(

Nothing more to say on this one really…

Loving my voiceover class, and bummed that this wednesday is the last day.

So yeah, the class was great, informative about technique but not about “the biz” side of things.  I felt like the instructor was purposely vague about direct questions I asked such as: where would you suggest someone get their first VO demo done.  His response, get recommendations from people…I said: People like our voiceover instructor?  He and the class laughed, but he never answered.  Ah well.  I’m on the hunt for a quality place to hopefully get a VO demo made.

Starting another round of classes tech/scene study next monday and am going to try out a class at black nexxus theater in a couple weeks.  I hear good things.

Yeah, I’m excited to start classes again.  Classes start Monday and end mid June.  I think I’ll go to Nexxus about once a month, maybe twice a month.  It’s a fat fee for just one session, but I hear such amazing things about their Exer-Actor classes, I’m sure it’ll be worth my cash and my time.

Have a PSA audition tomorrow, don’t have much info, I like it that way, less to stress over.

PSA for World Earth Day…So I go in for this, I’m looking adorable, I’m feeling good, I’ve memorized the copy….or so I think.  I get to the last line and I just deliver “I forget the last bit” straight to camera…very convincingly.  Then I crack up at myself.  The dude laughed at me and let me do it again but the second take was not as strong as the first.  Meh.

Attended another DAG yesterday, if you are not in NYC you should check it out on livestream.com/directingactors.  The past two gyms have been streamed live and are up on the site for viewing any time.
Not much to add here.  I love going to this.  I hate the networking part after, just cuz it’s uncomfortable for me, but I’m going to have to learn to deal with it. The actual “workout” is awesome.  I can’t wait till the April one.

Today recorded voiceover for an interactive DVD with the fine folks at Berlin Productions, it was fun, quick and easypeasy!

I LOVE VOICEOVER!!!  I hope these guys keep calling me in.  We did three spots for a Mothers & Daughters communication dvd thingy.  And they gave me my copies of the other work I’ve done with them in the past so YAY for that.

In general I’m in good spirits, and just ready for my school semester to be over so I can focus on my true goal.  No more effin around with this fallback career for now.

That’s still my feeling. I am ready to “up my hustle” and I’m excited for it.  My 2010 goals won’t cross themselves off, I’ve gotta get moving!!!
I’m compiling my list of CDs/Agents to mail to.
I’m making my list of CDs/Agents to meet at TheNetwork (and I’m going to try ActorsConnection too).
I’m in a class.
I’m workin’ out hardcore on my physical package.
I’m going to buy some books to keep my head in the game as well. (I’m working on a list)
I’m submitting like crazy to projects I’m good for.
Oh, and I’ll be registering at Central Casting next month so maybe I’ll get some extra work here and there.
